Anyone else on lockdown? Did you get enough supplies?

At first I had a letter from my employer saying I was an "employee of an essential business", which I was expected to present to anyone who asked why I was traveling. Last night, I got a letter from the Treasury Department saying I am a "essential worker". Just got a call that tonight I will have my government issued essential worker ID photo. A coworker is locked out of the country in Canada. My employer, the Treasury Department, and the Department of Commerce cannot get him back in the USA. That means I might have to travel to Colorado through at least one state in lockdown. In theory, I will be presenting my government issued essential worker ID to get into Ohio, and to cross the Mississippi.

THIS IS CRAZY!!!

I have family in Ohio that were deemed essential because they do the electric at the Air Force base.

I am just a computer programmer(a software engineer if I am feeling fancy). I do work on financial industry software, but not in a direct way. I write libraries and compilers for the people who write the software for the financial industry. I am sort of derivatively essential. When there is a major bug in the parts of the software that runs our financial system that I work on, I am essential. Then there are weeks where I am just in the way if I show up to work, and they are fine with me staying home.

Why this is not comparable to seasonal flu:

Seasonal flu does not overwhelm hospitals all over the planet!

Simply put, there a SHOT for "The Simple Seasonal Flue" and there's a lot of people who have developed an immune to it.

Not for Coronavirous ...

Trump is pushing hard to restart the economy despite the high risk to a large demographic of Trump voters. The Republicans are resisting him because they understand the science, or are listening to the experts. In the end, I think Trump will win. Could be a complete win or a partial win. About 3 weeks after Easter is Cinco de Mayo. Should be fun.

Once Trump lets that particular Genie out of the bottle, it will be difficult for him to put it back in because he never admits to making a mistake. He'll ride that horse all the way to the election, blaming both the Chinese and the Democrats the whole way. If the economy picks up again, despite thousands of dead older Trump voters, that's a point in his favor. If the COVID-19 death count exceeds the annual flu death rates, that'll work against him on election day.

All of that is from a purely economic and political point of view, not the tens of thousands of tragedies Americans will suffer by burying their dead.

You going to house people who are foreclosed on?

My girls are spread internationally, Australia, the US, the UK and various European countries. They're all on lockdown, access to supplies is difficult and NONE of them has any confidence in their ' leadership'. We're not far short of things turning nasty.

Sounds like you have many...

Why are they nervous about a Facebook Live sermon at home? Or did you mean the virus in general?

What I was actually referring to is ppl tithing prob have it set up auto pay but all the others that drop cash & checks in the offering may not make up for it the following weeks etc. Could make a real difference for some religious organizations........

There’s no doubt in my mind that those who want to give to their church will find a way to do so without compromising the health of others.

Yes, & they already pay about 80% + of the bills & keeping the lights on...

Not everyone attending most Sundays is part of that group..

Banks? Who else do you think would foreclose, the fucking post office?

Banks want money, not houses. That's why I was able to pick up some great bargains in Fort Worth during the Great Recession.

Doesn't Trump's Stimulus bill stop foreclosures and evictions? Last week Trump already put a 60 day halt to foreclosures and evictions. Such things take a couple of months anyway in most states so the 60 window is mostly for those already in danger of eviction and/or foreclosure.

60 days puts us around May 21st.

From March 21st:

Today’s White House coronavirus press briefing revealed that President Donald Trump has ordered that foreclosures and evictions cease for 60 days in an effort to mitigate the unemployment caused by coronavirus job losses. The briefing also outlined steps being taken to mass produce masks and ventilators in an expedited manner.

Ben Carson, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, said President Donald Trump ordered the “immediate cessations” of foreclosure and eviction proceedings. The White House also asked those who are struggling with mortgage payments to contact their providers to discuss forebearance on loans where unemployment is an issue.

Report from the Appalachian mountains.

WE are doing great here, my kids are having fun playing on the Mountain, Chopping wood, playing in the creek, catching trout, building fires and watching a movie on DVD at night.

The grocery store, half an hour drive down the mountain, has been fine short on supplies but nothing serious. That, the spotty and barely working internet and a phone line at a spot down the road is all the contact we have had with the outside world. It has been awesome for us, but I have empathy for the rest of the world. I hope this thing does not spread any more than necessary.

WE will be heading back to Palm Beach County in a few days, and I hate to think of what awaits us.
