Ronald Reagan defunded and closed down mental institutions and crooks like dump rigged the realestate market to make housing unaffordable for the average person.

These are policies you voted for so stop complaining about the homeless.

Well, it is true that 9 million people would have 9 million different stories, so it made some kind of sense.

About 40 years ago I was attending classes after work at the County College, and after a long day one day, I decided to dive into one of the bars across the street from the college, AND HAVE MYSELF A BEER! LOL!

I asked him, "Is that you"? And he said, "Well it used to be me" So I asked him, "What happened to that"? THIS WAS HIS STORY.....

He said, he used to have a beautiful wife and two sons, a nice home in Highland Park, and everything he could possibly want. He said he bought one of those nice cigarette boats and he used to take it to Lake Texhoma and cruise the lake with his family. One day, he hit a wake wrong and flipped the boat over, throwing everyone out in the water, and no one was wearing any life vests. He could see his wife about 10 feet away and struggling, his sons were in the other direction 20 feet away and they looked like they were drowning. Well, somehow, his wife and both his sons drowned that day and he somehow managed to save himself.

He said it went downhill from there because he started drinking, turned into an alcoholic, and ended up losing his job, his home, and everything he owned but the clothes he was wearing.

I've kind of looked at bums a little differently since then. And since then, I've heard some rather sad stories from some of these bums- always about alcohol or drugs somewhere in the mix.

In other words, this guy, like so many others in his situation, caused their own problems by drinking and doing drugs and now want someone else to foot the bill for his bad choices?

What city or local government could possibly afford such a thing? Should they provide free heat and electricity? It would also have the unintended consequence of people seeing an opportunity in ‘becoming homeless’ in order to qualify for free housing. It could be as simple as living in a tent for a few weeks and filling out some papers.

About 30 years ago, there was a homeless guy that "lived" around the area where I lived. He would sit at the corner of a busy intersection with a sign that said "Will work for food". I was doing an addition to my house at the time and needed some help. I stopped and not only offered him something to eat but told him I would pay him to do basic cleanup around the job site. His response was that he couldn't do that type of work but would still take some money for food. I told him to eat his sign.

It wasn't long after that he intentionally set the oldest building in the community on fire. When he was asked why, he said at least he could go to prison and have a place to sleep and food to eat.

The majority of Homeless People are just living day-to-day, surviving each day, and the long cold winter nights! Their predicament didn't start out as a plan to live off of others.

You'd think they'd realize what makes homelessness so abundant in California and stop being such egregious bastards about it. Let' make a short list.

1. Property is in very high demand and what you could get for a $100,000 elsewhere would probably run you $400,000 or more.

2. California has several areas people flock to thinking they are going to be big-time only to end up floundering. Hollywood, the LA, and SF food scene, etc.

3. All the natural disasters from simple drought to wildfires and Earthquakes.

No, it's poor choices for the most part. Anyone can make excuses like you did. If you want to solve the problem, start addressing the real cause of it.

We make a choice not to build enough housing and thus make our existing stock prohibitively expensive. We could do something about it but we choose not to. That's a choice. It's a major contributor to why we have the highest poverty rate in the country.

By far the majority of homeless in California are locals, they are not transplants. That is a false narrative.

We don't have the homeless population we do because of wildfires and earthquakes. Not sure where you got that from.

I get tired of public officials with their, out of sight and out of mind policies, making the homeless move?!!

If I was homeless, my main concern would be bathing and clean underwear to put on afterward?!! I take showers everyday, a habit I kept from the army?!!
