Hello Celticguy,

And the knives.
If they want to kill there is always a way.

And as soon as we have a national problem with mass knifings then we will have to address that, but right now we have a problem with mass shootings so that is what we are going to address.

Hello Phantasmal,

This is just so stupid

I think it will actually hurt them.

National polls show that people think the shootings are the problem and they favor at least closing the loopholes on background checks.

And it only makes sense. Somebody who has guns for a long time is not as likely to go out and do one of these terrible senseless sucker-punch slaughters of innocents. It is the people who become radicalized and decide they need to have guns and go out and get one specifically for the purpose of carrying out one of these unprovoked surprise attacks. We need to be looking at why they want that gun. There needs to be a psychoanalysis of that person to determine they want that gun for approved reasons, that they are not a hate-filled white supremacist.

Hello Celticguy,

A few hundred murders by rifles, 1700 by knives.
We've got a much bigger knife problem pilgrim.

There was no need to call me anything. I don't call you things.

Numbers from your link:

Weapons .............................2009.......2010........2011........2012..........2013

Total firearms:......................9,199.......8,878.......8,653.......8,897.........8,454

Knives or cutting instruments:...1,836......1,732.......1,716......1,604..........1,490

Total firearms far exceeds knives every year as weapon of choice. And why did you go back to 2013? Is there no newer data? Are we to understand that under the Trump administration they are no longer keeping track of this? Or did this year look the best to try to make your point. Which you did not.

Also, I see that suicides are not shown. Lotta people die by suicide with gun. Fewer than half the nation owns a gun. But obviously not all the ones who already have guns are being responsible with them. The last thing we need is more guns. We could greatly benefit from reducing the number of guns out there. That works in other countries that don't have the NRA, but not here.

Background checks will probably fail anyway. It doesn't matter that 85% of all Americans, Republican AND Democrat, independents too, favor background checks. But what people want is not the deciding factor. It is the power of the big money the NRA has. That is so effective it will prevent the USA from getting something that most people agree is needed.

All because the few want more profits so bad they are happy to see the carnage go on and do nothing about it but pretend it is video games or mental health or whatever else they can come up with to avoid admitting it's the guns.

Oh and the rifles thing? Don't even pretend that rifles are the only guns capable of having high capacity magazines.

Innocent people need that reloading time to get away.

We need that reloading time so that mystical 'good guy with a gun' who is almost never there can take out the bad guy with a gun. If that ever happens and the cops don't show up and mistakenly shoot the 'good guy with a gun.'

Im sorry if you found the term pilgrim to be derogatory. It was not intended to be so.

Its true that handguns far outstrip other weapons but the lefty side is all about rifles.

Just pointing out this fact.

And why is this so ? Pols only talk about them.

And why is this so ? Pols fear semiautomatic rifles as they are a good reasonably priced firearm if you want to shoot one. Handguns can be metal detected and sniper rifles are costly. These are accurate at a good distance.

You are at far greater risk of being killed by a car.

Driving is the most dangerous thing most Americans face. But we are working on that, and new regulations have greatly reduced that danger.

Getting shot by a random wacko is becoming more and more of a danger but we are not doing anything about that.

We thought surely after one mowed down 6 year olds in a school something would get done. But here we are still having the same conversation. And Mitch, so beholden to the NRA, says now is not the time.

Everything done to date has proven to be useless.
I would suggest enforcing some of these laws before writting more useless ones.

Try holding mental health professionals accountable for sacrificing public safety in favor of maintaining their fees.

There is no evidence that violent video games have any connection to mass shootings.

They are GAMES.
They might not have anything to do with mass shootings, but they instill warped norms into developing minds. I've never played a video game in my life, but I do know that in some you get rewarded for murdering hookers, and stealing automobiles.

How many new taxes for additional funding for mental health to try to address the problem have been voted on by Republicans?

Hello Althea,

That's true and of course killing people. But everybody knows it's pretend. Come up with that link. Show us the evidence that supports this theory. Without that it's just words. Words that were made up to give people something to use for denial. And of course there's always mental health. That one is popular too. Don't forget that one. It's just as credible as the video games excuse.

Hello Celticguy,

If you look at the backstory of all these events, they share a common theme; people knew. And in most cases th ok se people were mental health professionals.
Its not poor fokk doing this.
