I didn't like the way my own school district handled their math program. We were told as students that we had a choice when it came down to selecting which math program to pursue as a student. We could choose Modern Math with out having to take Algebra. Problem is, High School Algebra is required for most any college entrance exam.

I chose the modern math route, and that was a mistake, because I had to take High School Algebra in College before taking the required College Algebra courses.
