Police arrested a 26-year-old white British man on Friday (July 10, 2026) in connection with the murder of former MP Ann Widdecombe.
They publicly described him as a "white British national" shortly after the arrest.
However, on Saturday (July 11), they released him and confirmed he is no longer part of the investigation.
The Assistant Chief Constable now says, "I would ask the public again, please do not speculate on social media."
