Omar left Somalia 35 years ago, when she was 9 years old. She is fairly typical for the Minnesota Somalia-American community. They left in the refugee program implemented by Reagan in his first year. The refugee program was phased out by Clinton, and finally cancelled by Bush(junior). That means these Somalia-Americans have been here for 25 to 40 years, more than enough time to get citizenship.
95% of them have gotten citizenship. They are more likely to be citizens than the general population of America. Because they all came here legally, they just needed to stay for 5 years, and pass a simple test.
That is what makes this all so crazy. trump is trying to deport US citizens who have been here legally for decades.
Or put another way, Omar has been a US citizen for longer than barron trump, and speaks better english than he does.
