A majority of the American public believe that the U.S. government engages in widespread monitoring of its own citizens and worry that the U.S. government could be invading their own privacy. The Monmouth University Poll also finds a large bipartisan majority who feel that national policy is being manipulated or directed by a “Deep State” of unelected government officials.

“This is a worrisome finding. The strength of our government relies on public faith in protecting our freedoms, which is not particularly robust. And it’s not a Democratic or Republican issue. These concerns span the political spectrum,”

...

“We usually expect opinions on the operation of government to shift depending on which party is in charge. But there’s an ominous feeling by Democrats and Republicans alike that a ‘Deep State’ of unelected operatives are pulling the levers of power,” said Murray.

..

Few Americans (13%) are very familiar with the term “Deep State;” another 24% are somewhat familiar, while 63% say they are not familiar with this term. However, when the term is described as a group of unelected government and military officials who secretly manipulate or direct national policy, nearly 3-in-4 (74%) say they believe this type of apparatus exists in Washington. This includes 27% who say it definitely exists and 47% who say it probably exists.

Most americans now agree, THE DEEP STATE IS REAL

Deep State is another conspiracy fantasy..

No one PAYS for intelligence unless they think it has VALUE.

Not "the Deep State"

The Federal bureaucracy has existed long before this Administration, most Americans realize such, but it is only the Kool Aid drinkers who have now framed it as an antiTrump conspiracy working to delegitimize the President

You got to believe many of them actually believe the people who work for the Gov't were all hired by Obama and are upset cause Clinton didn't win the election

It is talk radio, Hannity demagoguery, and the amazing part is how fast and deep some conservatives fall prey so easily

Mr. Steele did not have the benefit of knowing Mr. Trump would win the election or how events might play out. In this regard, does any of the information we have learned since June 2016 assign greater or less credibility to the information?

Were the people mentioned in the report real? Were their affiliations correct? Did any of the activities reported happen as predicted?

To a large extent, yes.

The most obvious occurrence that could not have been known to Orbis in June 2016 but shines bright in retrospect is the fact that Russia undertook a coordinated and massive effort to disrupt the 2016 U.S. election to help Donald Trump, as the U.S. intelligence community itself later concluded.

Well before any public knowledge of these events, the Orbis report identified multiple elements of the Russian operation including a cyber campaign, leaked documents related to Hillary Clinton, and meetings with Paul Manafort and other Trump affiliates to discuss the receipt of stolen documents.

Mr. Steele could not have known that the Russians stole information on Hillary Clinton, or that they were considering means to weaponize them in the U.S. election, all of which turned out to be stunningly accurate.

no thanks to MS newz..
Maybe it's finally sinking in that the IC leadership can easily corrupt under the guise of "classified"

The scariest part about the deep state IMO, is that when it comes to them, elections don't have consequences. We the people can vote out one party, but the bureaucrats who were hired remain. And in far too many cases, continue to push their agenda, or ankle bite the new duly elected president.

LOLOL... Christopher Steele had NO way of knowing Trump would win the election.. Do you EVER think?

Interesting part of the poll the poster left out;

"Americans of black, Latino and Asian backgrounds (35%) are more likely than non-Hispanic whites (23%) to say that the Deep State definitely exists. Non-whites (60%) are also somewhat more likely than whites (50%) to worry about the government monitoring them and similarly more likely to believe there is already widespread government monitoring of U.S. citizens (60% and 49%, respectively). More non-whites (35%) than whites (23%) say that such monitoring is rarely or never justified."

Interesting how conservatives adapted a left wing concept that has existed since the 1950's and implied that it is now all about Trump

I find it much more "interesting" that the left -who used to be a champion of civil liberties now defers to the NSA/FBI..

If this supposed "deep state" actually existed, and were as powerful and as conspiratorial as conservatives like to believe, why in the hell then did they ever let Trump win?

So your implying because people don't swallow the supposed antiTrump "deep state" conspiracies that they no longer care about civil liberties?

they tried everything they could and emptied the clip. Trump was just that good.

it'snot like they didn't try.

Bogus Steele dossier shopped about and leaked to CNN by Clapper.
Knowingly using an "unverified" document to support a FISA application ( against FBI policy)

It gets even "deeper" with FISA abuse and un-masking request in the hundreds by Powers of all people.

Obama Administration Rushed to Preserve Intelligence of Russian Election Hacking
the suspicion among many in the Obama White House that the Trump campaign might have colluded with Russia on election email hacks — a suspicion that American officials say has not been confirmed. Former senior Obama administration officials said that none of the efforts were directed by Mr. Obama.

As Inauguration Day approached, Obama White House officials grew convinced that the intelligence was damning and that they needed to ensure that as many people as possible inside government could see it, even if people without security clearances could not. Some officials began asking specific questions at intelligence briefings, knowing the answers would be archived and could be easily unearthed by investigators — including the Senate Intelligence Committee, which in early January announced an inquiry into Russian efforts to influence the election.

At intelligence agencies, there was a push to process as much raw intelligence as possible into analyses, and to keep the reports at a relatively low classification level to ensure as wide a readership as possible across the government — and, in some cases, among European allies. This allowed the upload of as much intelligence as possible to Intellipedia, a secret wiki used by American analysts to share information.

When disseminating a raw intelligence report, an intelligence agency is not vouching for the accuracy of the information provided by the report’s sources and/or sub-sources.
