Putin says its illegal to boycot his election

im not sure what type of system Russia has but I know Australia has compulsory voting. Everyone is forced to vote or they are given a penalty. Maybe Russia has something similiar.

didnt he switch out with someone? Putin wasnt president when Obama said " Tell Vlad to wait after the election when I have more flexibility" right?

i was pretty sure he switched out with mendedev or something. But everyone did recognize that Putin was the power behind the throne. After all Obama colluded with Russia and asked them to wait till after the election for something they needed.

Maybe Russia preferred Obama to Romney in 2012?

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday wouldn't comment on the Election Commission's decision to bar Navalny but said the "calls for boycott ought to be carefully studied to see if they are breaking the law."

Peskov also rejected suggestions that Navalny's absence on the ballot could dent the legitimacy of Putin's possible re-election.

The Russian law doesn't say calls for an election boycott are illegal, but authorities last year blocked access to several web-sites calling for the boycott.
 
The Russian Central Election Commission said in a hastily convened session Monday that Navalny was not permitted to run because of a previous conviction for fraud in a criminal case that he deems politically motivated. Russian election law bars those with criminal convictions from seeking political office, although Navalny has argued that the rule infringes on his constitutional right to seek office.
