"White House Strategic Communications Director Mercedes Schlapp walked out of the White House Correspondent’s Dinner last month, saying it was “mean-spirited” of comedian Michelle Wolf to joke about Sarah Sanders’ eyeshadow.
But yesterday after White House aide Kelly Sadler joked that John McCain’s opposition to torture as an interrogation tactic didn’t matter because “he’s dying anyway,” Sarah Sanders refused to condemn the comments (a separate Trump adviser appeared on Fox News to call McCain “Songbird John,” implying he’d given up secret U.S. intel while held captive; he did not).
As for Mercedes Schlapp’s positon on this? Well, you might think someone who has a problem with “mean-spirited” “Maybe it’s Maybelline” jokes would be truly enraged about jokes mocking the impending death of a man who was tortured for 6 years as a U.S. prisoner of war, but –
“For the record, I stand with Kelly Sadler.”
That’s Mercedes Schlapp’s stated position.
All the hand-wringing, pearl-clutching, and Sarah Sanders-defending that the so called “liberal” press corps engaged in after Michelle Wolf’s joke about Madame Smoky Lies was for naught.
Stop trying to take the high ground with these people. It is meaningless to them. So long as Cadet Bone Spurs is president, the high ground will only ever be constantly yanked out from under those who try to climb it. It is an oiled slope that only a fool would repeatedly attempt to ascend.
Perhaps some of these people in the White House like Sanders, Schlapp and Sadler were once good people who deserved better. I doubt it. But perhaps they were. They aren’t now. Whatever shred of humanity and decency they had, they long ago sold it to Cadet Bonespurs. In a way, that makes them worse than him: Trump is who he is and he can’t help that he was born to be an empty subhuman void of malignant narcissism and petty rage, but those who follow him and imitate him chose that path.
No more apologies. Call them all out for the liars, hypocrites, fascists, Nazi-coddlers, and smoky-eyed toddler-tyrant-enabling-sycophants they have chosen to be."
