FACT; if we do not look at what is causing dysfunction in our societies family structure, drugs, alcohol abuse, out of wedlock births and single parent households, AND, we ignore the devastation drug use is having right now, all the efforts at the incarceration level will be a massive waste of time. Also, if we just keep releasing these pathological predators onto our streets, citizens will continue to be harmed.

I am always amazed how the Progressive left is more concerned with illegal aliens and criminals than they are with the safety of law abiding, hard working Americans.

One of the reasons we saw such problems with single family homes is our draconian drug and sentencing laws. It's the exact reason reform is needed. Especially with drugs punishing people with decades in prison isn't the best way to address.

I have a family, I want my family safe. I'm a life long Republican who is nothing but a racist according to many liberals here. But I support even basic prison reform in the name of safety. When looking from a holistic perspective at many of our problems we can see the role prison sentencing has played in it.

Just love to see the cracks appearing in the right's dogma. Now if you really want to learn how to keep your family safe and to pay far less in taxes by jailing people for petty crime, have a look at the Norway prison system. I've posted the link for you.

You should remind your fellow Democrats who signed the 1994 (mass incarnation) crime bill which put more black people behind bars than any other legislation.

You know this is actually pretty good? Criminal justice reform was totally stalled all throughout Obama even though it was becoming clear that the nation needed it badly, due to gridlock. I almost never expected to see it passed. Really surprising that Trump would be the one to push it through. I guess only Nixon could go to China.

We care about this because most people in prison are in for non violent drug crimes. Those people cost you and I money to house feed and secure. Instead legalize drugs, tax them and make money off them. win win
