It is in the sense that a politician does it because they ran on a platform and their party is completely out-of-step with that platform. So it is fair to the people that voted for that politician to see them switch so they can get their agenda accomplished as promised.

It isn't in the sense that if people voted for a party rather than the candidate they they aren't getting what they voted for.

If we had a functioning polling industry (we dont) I could probably be persuaded if the vast majority of the citizens indicated that they would support the switch.

But I am pretty hard line on this, as well as with these fucks like McCain and Gabby Giffords who decided that it is Just Fine And Dandy to take extended/super extended time off....as they clearly are not capable of the job and likely never will be.

You dont fuck over the voters.

It seems just as likely to me to be a rumour circulated by Republican hacks trying to coerce Biden-Pelosi-Schumer to prematurely jump the gun, and pass a watered down, totally weak reconciliation bill (or maybe back down altogether) before Manchin "bails" the party.

Manchin himself says the rumours are bullshit.

what would happen is probably the same thing that happened when James Jeffords switched to being a demmycrat....

Jeffords served in the Senate from 1989 until 2007, winning reelection in 1994 and 2000. In 2001, he made national headlines when he left the Republican Party to become an independent, and began to caucus with the Senate's Democrats. His switch changed control of the Senate from Republican to Democratic, the first time a switch had ever changed party control. During his Senate career, Jeffords served as chairman of the Public Works and Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committees.
