a non-violent death by a car
or a non-violent death by hanging
or a non-violent death by jumping from a tall building
or a non-violent death by a knife
or a non-violent death by a hammer
or a non-violent death by being choked
etc.
etc.

The only death that might be described as non-violent, would be someone who died in their sleep.

He is incorrect about the escalation of violence, because violent crimes have not increased. That doesn't diminish his characterization of you barrel-strokers willing to look the other way on 30,000 gun deaths a year. Year in and year out. There's your fucking statistic, asswipe. Measure the rate of gun violence against another western country, shitweasel. There's your next statistic, bitch.

Even the ultra-liberal New York Times knows that almost 2/3 of gun deaths in the US are suicides.


When Americans think about deaths from guns, we tend to focus on homicides. But the problem of gun suicide is inescapable: More than 60 percent of people in this country who die from guns die by suicide.

Suicide is the second-most common cause of death for Americans between 15 and 34, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Across all ages, it is the 10th-most common cause of death.

Not all of those suicides are by gun, but a majority are.

The high rate of gun suicides in the United States is not a new problem. Even in the 1980s and 1990s, when violent crime rates were much higher, gun suicides were still a more common cause of death than gun murders.

Many of the gun-control measures that politicians propose to reduce the number of homicides and mass shootings would have a limited effect on gun suicides. Efforts to ban so-called assault weapons or to reduce the number of bullets that could be loaded into a gun at once would probably not make suicide any less likely.
