Socialist restaurant in Minneapolis closes for good.

It really is amazing that given all of human history marxists/leftists think they can fight the laws of supply and demand.

Are they really that clueless about basic economics and human nature? Or are they so narcissistic and convinced of their own greatness that they convince themselves that they alone can overcome?

Either way it is both funny and tragic to watch.

And still these marxists won't learn. That is probably the most troubling thing about all of this

Nice ad hominem coupled with multiple red herrings. The story is important not because this restaurant is closing particularly, but because of the business model it chose to use causing that closure. It is a real-life example of why Socialism fails in practice: Take what you need, pay what you can.

In practice it became, Take what you want and pay little or nothing for it. Instead of altruism, the restaurant found out that by nature humans are greedy and selfish.
So given 99% of all restaurants operate on capitalist models does that restaurants closing, which happens daily, prove capitalism doesn’t work? Will Fox and the Daily report on their closure?

Little economic lesson for you “td,” America does not have a straight capitalist economy, it is a mixed economy, and has been since the 19th Century

And by the way, it’s comical when maga as yourself portray anyone who criticizes Trump as a Marxist when it is Trump who kisses up to the likes of Putin, Xi, and Little Rocket Man

They always celebrate when alternative energy companies go under also.
I don't "celebrate" when "alternative energy companies go under." I do point out their failure and the reason(s) for it. It is part of my overall pointing out just how costly, inefficient, and utterly stupid "alternative energy" like solar and wind really are.

You making a false equivalency argument here. When capitalist model restaurants fail it isn't because they are handing out all their meals for free and then expecting customers to fork over money for that meal out of the goodness of their heart. They make a meal and charge customers what it costs them to produce it plus some profit margin.

What doesn't work is Socialism. The food costs money to produce. The workers that assemble it into a meal put labor and effort into doing that. That all has associated costs. The Socialist model restaurant then gives the meal to a customer / patron for less than the cost of production (free in this case). They then expect the customer or patron to magically know what that meal is worth and voluntarily fork over the appropriate amount of money to pay for it.

The restaurant makes zero attempt to determine if a customer has the means to pay. In fact, they expect--by their own statements--those who have lots of money to pay far more than the meal is worth to cover the costs of meals that weren't paid for by those lacking means or who simply weren't going to pay to begin with.

That makes Modern Times a notable exception and something of an experiment. It is one worth news media's attention for its unique business model and the utter failure of that model.

Oh believe me I know that the US is not a true capitalist country. Personally I don't care for capitalism. I am more of a free market fan. Capitalism as it has played out in the US is big companies feeding at the trough of big gobblement, and then when shit goes tits up, the taxpayers foot the bill.

You will remember that during the financial crisis of 2008, I was opposed to gobblement bailouts of the banks and GM. But, oh no the smarty smarts said we had to bail them out or our economy would collapse. There was zero proof of that.

So you are clear when I ever speak about economics it is always from a free market framework.

Trump can be as big government as anyone. I won't deny it. You see unlike you I can be clear eyed about who I support. You cheer Team Blue no matter what. You are a partisan hack

Not a false equivalency, you are condemning socialism based on this one restaurant folding so why doesn’t the argument work in reverse, if a restaurant based on capitalism closes it shows capitalism doesn’t work, that the profit motive failed? It, and your “point,” are nonsensical

And again, one restaurant closing in the country for whatever reason isn’t noteworthy

If a restaurant based on Capitalism fails because of poor management, an unprofitable menu plan, location, or something else, that doesn't equate to it giving food away for free and working on tips as its business plan.

But it failed, just as your supposed socialist restaurant failed, both had bad business plans, but neither reflects an entire economic system

Free Market is capitalism, and probably the only place you would ever find a free market is at the local Farmers Market, it is antiquated, has been since the 19th Century

Seems the Modern Times Cafe whose business model was everything on the menu is free and you donate what you can to the business went bankrupt. Sort of a real life version of From each according to their ability, to each according to their need. Reality appears to have done a serious hit and run on that idea here.

They are leaving out key parts of the story. The donation model was always meant to be temporary. the coming closure is temporary and they will be reopening in a for profit model but with no tipping allowed.

Actually no they are not the same and we have never practiced free market capitalism nor do we now. I know uneducated people like yourself think that, but you are wrong.

And are you telling me that farmers markets aren't regulated in any way?

MAGAts never have the full story. If they did, they wouldn't be MAGAts.

Wait a minute you said you favor free markets and now are admitting they don’t even exist?

And I said, Farmers’ Markets are about as close as you are going to come to a free market, an onion is an onion regardless of price

Yes I favor free markets and we do not have free markets in the US. Both can be true

They are regulated, but not by the farmers.
