Agreed, but that's besides the point. American Socialists want a society that is economically similar to Scandinavia. No mainstream American Socialist or Democratic Socialist is saying that we should eliminate democracy and the free market.
Saying Bernie Sanders wants us to be Venezuela is a lazy NPC talking point.

But what is Scandinavia’s defense budget? How many air bases do they have in foreign countries? Are they a large country with a multiplicity of social issues? Is their infrastructure anywhere near the size of ours?

As for the Scandinavian countries being smaller, sure, but so what? Due to our population, we have far more billionaires here, which means we have more people to tax for these programs.

Trump got European countries to live up to their NATO obligations and got kudos from Mattis, who recently said NATO is stronger on account of Trump’s policy.

Trump is a puppet to big business and Israel. He's already dropped more bombs than Obama in just as many countries. This buffoon isn't going to be the one to end the Military Industrial Complex.
And because he's a puppet, he's not going to help the working-class with health care or college. Any money saved from war will go to the rich.

We have had a long period of income redistributed to the top. It started with Reagan and every Repub has accelerated it.
 
Capitalism is the control of everything by a very tiny rich minority, socialism is democratic control of everything by those who do the work as a way towards the sharing of abundance by everyone. What most people currently want is some degree of democratic control of capitalism. Good luck to them if they can get it, but most past experience suggests that the rich will work tirelessly to prevent democracy, always and everywhere, and retain the current chaos. If we survive another twenty years or so (which I rather doubt) we may begin to see.
