It's an amazing, beautiful state. It's almost its own country, with the world's fifth largest economy. It's got deserts, high mountains, lakes, rivers, the Pacific. It's got cool foggy coastal climates, scorching dry summers in the interior, mountain snows, redwood forests. Where else could you go deep sea fishing, surfing, downhill skiing, and mountain hiking in one day?
Economically you also have to factor in that salaries are higher in California.

Average salary in California is 80k per year, while in Texas it's 64k per year. And while gasoline, state taxes, rent and mortgage are higher in California, Texas has substantially higher property taxes and utilities.

Then there are all the intangibles. Things you can't put a price on. You might have a nice house in Texas but you can't go outside five months out of the year because of oppressive heat.

I was gifted with a visit to San Fran in 1969, with parents so it wasn't one of those 60s hippie things. Loved it. I can see why someone would want to live there. I didn't care that much for L.A., where we spent four days. We spent three in S.F. and another 3 in Sequoia NP. A bucket list item is to go back to S.F. some day. But just to visit.
It's interesting you mention L.A. It was a total culture shock going from the Bay to L.A. for college. On the surface, same state/same politics, that seems surprising. But Nor Cal and So Cal are like two different states.

L.A. is like Dallas, very car centric and very into looks. S.F. is much different.

As for S.F. in 1969, that would have been a year or two after the Summer of Love.

If Stoney's claiming something you know it's a lie anyway. Trumptards are all living a lie.
Said the guy who's had 5 different jobs in the last year. What exactly is wrong with you anyway that you cant seem to keep a job to save your ass? Lazy, inept, stupid, slow and slothy? What is it? You would think a senior citizen of your advanced age would have his shit together by now,....what gives,..... Lunkhead ?
