I believe in mercy, justice, and virtue. And I believe these these values are universal and exist independently and apart from secular law, public opinion, or the whims of dictators.
Nor can they be experimentally proven, or proven by sensory perception or empirical evidence.
You have not stated what you do base those three ideas upon.
I believe in those virtues as well, and if taxed to explain it
will have to say it is the visceral understanding that I experience some pain when I see lack of mercy and arbitrariness.
I think those ingrained emotions are biologically passed down with the influence of their forwarding survival of our species.
However, their antithesis does exist in spades, and so it most also play a role in survival. I do not believe those beliefs are
acquired through reason. Some reflexes are encouraged. We are behaviorally controlled by schools and parents to emote virtue and eschew vice.
Do I throw up when I see a merciless beating because of some divination or some brain calculus? Nope, its because I had toothpicks in my eyelids.
Think Clockwork Orange used gently.
