Suez Canal blocked/blockaded

We dont live in the world of 1967 and 1975 sport....I know.....I was there!

Going around the Cape of Good Hope is not a good solution, but it is a viable solution. There are some ships that are intentionally too big to go through the Suez Canal, so will not be effected by this. It is becoming normal to build ships that when fully loaded go around the Cape of Good Hope, and then return to China empty through the Suez Canal.

The Cape Horn is much further to the south, so if the Panama Canal is blocked, it is much worse.

We will see. If a week from now, the Suez Canal is still somewhat blocked, it will be a very bad sign.

A Master can at anytime over rule the Pilot.

How would he do that? The pilot works with the same tugboats for years on end. The pilot has the walkie talkie to communicate with the tugboats. I guess the captain could grab the walkie talkie, but wouldn't the tugboats start asking, who is this foreigner who has replaced the pilot we know?

Now the captain has a lot more power to overrule the orders to the crew of the ship. Even there, the captain is in domestic waters, so under the laws of the same entity that the pilot represents. On the high seas, the captain is king. In domestic waters, the captain is just a foreign guest in the country.

If the captain refuses pilot instructions will he ever be allowed back into the canal?

More importantly, if a captain refuses a pilots orders, would he be arrested? The ship is in Egypt, and under the full authority of Egyptian laws. I personally would be more worried about not being allowed to leave than not being allowed back if I were allowed to leave.

I do not want to be too harsh on Sailor. He might be right. There are times that people have no control over a situation, but still are held liable if it goes wrong.

I am just saying, if I were in any way involved with this accident (for the time being, let's keep calling it an accident), then I would want to get out of Egypt, and into a western country. Egypt might look for someone to blame, and their courts are a joke. It is very easy to end up in an Egyptian prison being tortured for a few decades.

Sailor is awesome....but make no mistake it is True/Not True that matters.

Any true progressive would support me on this.

There is an added twist here. In America, the written law is what matters. In Egypt, the de facto rules matter more. A court can rule whatever the government wants, and no one will tell it differently.

Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist organization so designated as such by el-Sisi.
It's no different then here with our "domestic extremists" -there is some political element involved
designated by the DoJ or Egyptian equivalent

The difference is the EMB really is organized insurrectionist (ex.) smuggling rifles in caskets and funding terror.

Here it was a bunch of goofballs wearing horned hats

The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood is not in power in Egypt. El-Sisi's military dictatorship is in power. He will decide who is guilty and who is not. There is no law that will stand in the way of his decisions.

50 ships a day are not going through.

30 mph hour breeze it is said did this.

What?

Imagine the ship was a sail with a huge surface area!! There is nothing to ameliorate a 50 kph wind coming off the desert, no trees or mountains, nothing.

simplistic nonsense. Do you understand Morsi was a EMB sympathizer, and let terrorism flourish in the Sinai?
start there. Then the reference to rifles in caskets is how they smuggled them into the people (cairo etc.).

Sisi shut all this down and seized their assets and prohibited them from finance trnsactions ( terrorist designation)

freaking Obama put sanctions on Sisi -that dumb POTUS forced Sisi to buy from Russia instead
Trump re-established good ties with Sisi

Siss doesnt have blanket power -Egyptian courts have ruled against him (dropping Mubarak charges)

simplistic nonsense.

It is a simple situation. The fate of the workers in Suez Canal accident will be decided by a government controlled by El-Sisi. The previously elected government of Morsi has no say in what happens to them. The Muslim Brotherhood has no say in what happens to them.

pointless. you could at least show how the courts give political favor to Sisi to back up your initial charge
of Sisi controlling the courts.

I dont think we have a leg to stand on in terms of secrecy considering our known FISA abuses
