The Deplorable Blue Collars, truckers, farmers, smelly Walmarters & bitter clingers

Like her wise choice on the invasion of Iraq or buying cattle futures?

Look, if your argument is that we should have known better than to trust Bush the Dumber and the Republicans when they lied about WMDs in Iraq, I would agree.

And I would say that is precisely the reason why you cannot trust Republicans, or anything they believe or promise, today.

That includes things like tax cuts.

I took a strong position against the war. It is your side that thought it was a good idea led by your presidential choice.

Again, if the argument is that everyone should have known better than to trust Republicans, I would completely agree.

It's why I don't trust them today.

Clinton, Kerry, et al...yeah, they got duped. Totally. And they did get blame for that, and have since admitted it was a mistake to trust Conservatives.

You haven't taken that lesson away from the Iraq War, clearly, which makes me think you didn't really oppose it. How could you have, when you didn't even take any lessons away from it?

Coward. You forgot to mention a majority of Democrats voted for it in the Senate.

Yeah, because they trusted what Bush and the GOP were telling them.

And it was a mistake, as they have all said.

See, the difference is that they admit to their mistakes and bad choices, whereas you defend them.

I didn't vote for Biden, Kerry, or Clinton in either the 2004, 2008, 2016, or 2020 primaries. But I voted for them in the general specifically because of the lies from the GOP and Bush, and because I heeded the warnings.

You didn't.

You idiot. You think private doctors, dentists, chiropractors, supply houses and others using the Medicare system are free market operators? They must follow the rules and regulations of the law and take advantage of stupid government regulations.

What stupid regulation, in particular?

If government will pay vendors 3-4 times the price VA pays for bandages you will find vendors who will charge it. They may not even be real vendors but just PO Boxes that provide no products but get the check and move before it can be verified. That is not the free market. It would take bids and verify the vendor before doing business with them.

Flash, the only reason the VA pays that is because of the free market setting that price.

So in your mind, Medicare is the only payor being defrauded and no one has ever defrauded a private insurance company before? What about the insurance companies themselves? Do you think they've never participated in, or passed over, or ignored fraud? Do you really think that, really?

No, that's not the argument. I equally opposed intervention by Democrats (Viet Nam, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Guyana, Pakistan, Haiti, Syria). If you trusted the Democrats in these interventions your judgment is poor and your morals and concern for human life is low.

I've been pretty vocal about my view of American foreign policy, so I don't know what you expect from me here. I've said, countless times, that I think our role in the world should be humanitarian only, and that our foreign policy should be one simple phrase: REFUGEES ARE WELCOME HERE.

It wasn't Obama or Clinton who lied us into Iraq, which destabilized the entire region, which led to Syria, Libya, etc.

It also wasn't Obama or Clinton who opposed climate change legislation to reduce our role in spreading carbon emissions, which was the real, true cause of the Syrian Civil War.

You're the one who thinks that is all BoThSiDeS and you think that because it's the easy thing to do, and you're lazy.

I never said anything defending private insurance companies--another wild assumption caused by your binary thinking.

Private insurance companies do have more of an incentive to make sure money is not wasted. Government agencies have an incentive to spend. Government should have both private and government agencies bid on administering programs. In most developed nations with universal health care private insurance companies are usually involved and private health insurance is very involved in the current Medicare system.

If Medicare for All is paid by payroll taxes and business taxes, what would happen today? If 16 million are unemployed workers are not playing payroll taxes and businesses that are closed cannot pay their taxes. How is that any different than unemployed workers not being able to pay for their health insurance?

Ah, but your argument against M4A is "lOoK aT aLl ThE fRaUd!!!"

But...no mention of fraud among private insurance companies, with whom more money is spent and likely lost to fraud than Medicare.

Insurance companies don't even have to disclose the fraud. There's no reporting mechanism. So for all you know, the rate of fraud among private insurance could be exponentially higher, since there's no government agency that oversees it, and since any oversight is handled in the shadows by the insurance companies. Why? Because announcing that the company is being defrauded would result in a lower share price.

Well, a well-funded social safety net would do exactly what a well-funded social safety net does in a time of crisis. This whole thing is proving the need for a strong social safety net because the private sector cares more about profits than health.

And speaking of which, where is the private sector in all this? I don't see them testing people. I don't see them paying people more for doing dangerous work. I don't see them providing essential workers with PPE. I don't see them offering sick pay, or health insurance. I don't see them building hospitals. I don't see them doing anything other than sitting back and collecting the bailout they didn't deserve or earn, while crying that the economy should be re-opened because they're losing business. All I see them doing is laying people off.

This is the dumbest point you've made so far.

Because both sides were involved in the interventions. I did not list Iraq or Afghanistan in my list because they were Republicans. Obama continued the Iraq and Afghanistan wars for the entire eight years so he is as much to blame as Bush, especially since he promised to end those wars. He fought those wars longer than Bush did.

So, yeah, both sides are equally to blame for interventionist foreign policy.

Hunanitarian reasons was the justification used for some of those interventions.

I thought Kuwait was good (it ended a foreign invasion) and maybe Bosnia.

Because both sides were involved in the interventions..

But they weren't!

Obama opposed the Iraq War. That's why I voted for him in the primary and general in 2008.

A majority of House Democrats opposed it.

Millions of people marched against it. I remember because I was one of them in NYC who did. You know what else I remember? BoThSiDeRiStS saying that those who oppose the Iraq War were just as bad as those who supported it. I'm sure you had the same mentality.

I mean, Obama pulled us out of Iraq and reduced our troop presence in Afghanistan by the end of his Presidency. And we on the left continued to give him shit for it...like the drone program that we opposed.

But to compare that to lying about WMDs to trick the nation into a war of convenience...that's BoThSiDeRiSm at its absolute shittiest.

So you are still responsible for your shitty vote in 2016, Flash. And no amount of you trying to rewrite history to make yourself look good by making bad faith comparisons, is going to change that.

Private insurance company fraud was not mentioned because the discussion was about Medicare for All which supposedly would not use private insurance--so it was irrelevant. You always bring up irrelevant arguments.

Private insurance companies would reduce their share price if they allowed waste and fraud to lower their profits. They have an incentive to examine, for example, hospital charges and are often able to find errors and reduce bills.

This is the dumbest point you've made so far.

The already existing $1 trillion plus social safety net spending did not go away or decrease in spending.

Private companies are actively recruiting nurses with high pay willing to work in COVID units. Nurses in my area willing to work in could earn a lot of additional money. My wife is a retired nurse and has gotten some enticing officers to come back to work, but she doesn't think the risks are worth it.

He fought those wars longer than Bush did.

No, he inherited those wars that Conservatives and their BoThSiDeRiSt allies enabled.

He pulled us out of Iraq.

He got bin Laden.

He reduced our presence in Afghanistan.

I'm all for pulling our troops out of conflicts, but only when there's a plan to do it. Pulling them out, herky-jerky, is what leads to greater humanitarian crises, and I'm adult enough to admit that.

It's why when Trump said he was pulling us out of Syria, I was opposed! Because there wasn't an exit strategy. There wasn't any considerations. None of that was there, nor was any of that there when you and Bush got us into Iraq. So it's not as simplistic as you're making it out to be, for the sake of your ego to assuage your guilty conscience.

Since I opposed the war how did I think those who opposed it were as bad as those who favored it. You make no sense. It doesn't matter how Obama voted (when it didn't matter). What matters is that he continued a war that only got worse.

My vote for 3rd party in 2016 is nothing compared to your long-term support of a party that initiated or supported multiple foreign policy interventions over our history. Nobody died because of my vote while millions died because of the actions of your party.

Private insurance company fraud was not mentioned because the discussion was about Medicare for All which supposedly would not use private insurance--so it was irrelevant. You always bring up irrelevant arguments.

Flash, it is your argument that I am merely repeating back to you.

Your indictment of M4A is "lOoK aT tHe FrAuD", but you can't look at that fraud without also looking at fraud among private insurance companies. Because, as you said, the private sector is taking advantage of it. The same private sector you want to administrate our health care. And BTW - private insurance companies do a lot of administration for Medicare, the institution you are trying to say is rife with fraud.

So it would seem that the private insurance companies are the problem here, because Medicare or not, they're still being defrauded, right?

Aetna is defrauded in Medicare.

Aetna is also defrauded outside of Medicare.

So...?

Look, if your argument is that we should have known better than to trust Bush the Dumber and the Republicans when they lied about WMDs in Iraq, I would agree.

And I would say that is precisely the reason why you cannot trust Republicans, or anything they believe or promise, today.

That includes things like tax cuts.

No, it had nothing to do with trusting Republicans about WMDs. It is about having the knowledge to know invading and occupying another nation only has catastrophic results (even if they had WMDs) and hurts the country's interests in the long-run.

Private insurance companies would reduce their share price if they allowed waste and fraud to lower their profits. They have an incentive to examine, for example, hospital charges and are often able to find errors and reduce bills.

As does Medicare.

And the volume of it is higher among private insurers than it is for Medicare because Medicare only covers 65M, whereas private insurance covers nearly 4 times that.

So there's way, way, waaaaaaaaaaaaay more fraud in private health insurance than Medicare, even while a lot of Medicare administration is handled by private insurance.

The already existing $1 trillion plus social safety net spending did not go away or decrease in spending.

What social safety net?

5 mile-long lines for food banks?

Unemployed people unable to collect their unemployment insurance?

You think that all of this is adequate?

You're a fucking monster.

Private companies are actively recruiting nurses with high pay willing to work in COVID units.

Not really. No they're not. This is a fantasy. Any nurses are already working, and no one is switching jobs in the middle of this.

Meanwhile, 17M people did lose their jobs and health care, and the best you can do is shrug your shoulders and pretend they don't exist.

A well-funded safety net would have caught those 17M people and not let them go without health care.

But you want people to die. Because, pRiNcIpLeS.
