"Medicare for All" is public payment for private services which would still be inefficiently expensive.
Also, Medicare is not comprehensive.

What we really need is a cradle to grave National Health Service.
Yet, there seems to be so little support for it, even among those who would benefit most.
I simply cannot understand it.

There are no benefits. 'Free' healthcare is not free. TANSTAAFL. It is ruinously expensive and inferior healthcare.
If doesn't matter of it's 'Medicare for All', or any other name for such a system.
