Why not? Although I think that "tranny" is more of a substitute for "faggot" or "homo" than it is for the racial slur. "Thug" is the new n-word, although not so new; I've seen it used for some years now, thanks to the #OrangeMenace. There's one here who even uses it to describe urban students that didn't care for her.
