I believe the thinking was since this was a political endeavor, that simplicity would move public opinion more than a complex case. Not sure it is dumb to assume
the population is dumb. Any chance of impeachment hinges on getting enough of the republican rabble to understand the case to force their politicians hands.
I think that was the thinking.

Well we have more than enough evidence, but the Fascists don't care about that.
You could argue that there was no point in impeaching Trump since he was never going to be removed, but on the other hand, the Democrats are required to do their job even if the Republicans won't. It's definitely a complicated situation.

Democrats have a problem with the general public but that isn’t it lol.

And it’s a problem they refuse to admit to. The public had just been subjected to a bogus three year investigation into Trump and Russia; but before they could could catch their breath, here comes this Ukraine thing with virtually the same characters who were crying wolf about collusion.

Yes, Democrats have a problem—a credibility problem, that they richly deserve. Too many people aren’t stupid.

I think they could have presented the case of bribery in a simple enough way. Trump withheld money in return for a personal favor in the form of kneecapping Biden, simple as that.
And they should have known that Republicans, both politicians and regular citizens, don't care how Trump gets reelected as long as he gets reelected.

If Democrats were serious about it they would have allowed the courts to adjudicate the subpoena issues.

IOW, continue investigation until they had sufficient evidence to *force* Republicans to remove Trump. But they were in a hurry. They said, because Trump might meddle in the 2020 election lol. Which makes absolutely no sense, because if Trump can’t be removed, he’s free to meddle. Not that there’s the first shred of evidence that Trump has meddled in any election. Google and some of the big tech companies are the biggest election meddlers, anyway. But that’s another issue.

The truth is, they just wanted to impeach Trump—and the sooner the better.

Yes- that is a bit of a worry, isn't it. Trump also openly supports law-breaking fascist and tyrannical regimes- Izrael and Saudi Arabia - so the fundamentals of civilized life are under threat. That's the power of mobsters. The ' security ' services and ' police ' are their foot-soldiers.
We're really looking at a scenario wherein the establishment places itself above the law yet holds the rest of us accountable to it.
If Trump isn't totally trashed at the next election- not just defeated, but crushed- then the soul of America is in very serious trouble.

Democrats can't stop Trump from trying to meddle again, but after he was caught in the Ukraine scandal, he released the funding. This shows that they can stop him from successfully meddling again.

The entire point of Trump trying to coerce Zelinsky to publicly announce an investigation into Biden, was for the purpose of meddling with the 2020 election by using a foreign entity to sway public opinion against Biden, who, according to the polls, is his toughest opponent.

If Google and some of the big tech companies are election meddlers and they're doing so illegally, then let Trump's justice dept investigate, indict and prosecute.

But Trump is the President, so when he gets caught at it, AS HE DID... impeachment is the only option.

And if he has demonstrated a willingness and propensity to continue doing it in spite of having been caught, then the Democrats were correct in their need to accelerate the process before Trump could wipe his ass with the Constitution some more.

Absolutely. It's funny, I remember in the election between Obama and McCain, people were saying it was an election for the soul of America. But really, those two weren't THAT different. Either one of them could have come and gone without changing the country all that much. However, we now have a true crossroads. If Trump is reelected, Americans are letting the Republicans know that they can take our Democracy away without a backlash. This next election really will be the most important of our lifetimes.
