The sucking up done in Trump's cabinet meetings is unparalleled — and there are numbers to prove it

Officials in President Trump’s Cabinet meetings spend at least 1 out of every 6 sentences praising him, according to a New York Times analysis published Monday — a level of public flattery that experts say is historically unusual.

The New York Times compared televised Cabinet meetings from Trump’s first term — between July 2017 and May 2020 — to those in his second term over the past year and a half, and found that officials occasionally pushed back on Trump’s decisions and stances during his first term.

During the March 24, 2025, cabinet meeting, Rubio, referring to the Russian war in Ukraine, said, “This is a war that’s gone on for three years, as you’ve pointed out — that, as you’ve rightly pointed out, would have never happened had you been president.”

“President Trump has assembled the most talented Cabinet in history,” White House spokeswoman Allison Schuster told HuffPost. :rofl2: :rofl2::lolup:

"Flattery and blind loyalty may be good for a president’s ego, but they rarely produce the candid advice that leads to sound policy decisions,” Chris Lu, who served as White House Cabinet secretary under former President Barack Obama and is now a professor at the University of Virginia Miller Center, told HuffPost. “A president should want advisers who are willing to tell him what he needs to hear, not just what he wants to hear.”

From day one of his first reign of terror, it was embarrassing to see those meetings.

That aside, torturing members by forcing them to wear ill fitting shoes is classic!

I'm watching clips of it now - pretty sick shit, their sucking up - and Trump looks like he's lost it, blaming Biden for something to do with the Lincoln Memorial? The man is NOT right.

In a first-term meeting, Trump put his water bottle on the floor. Pence saw that and with hands shaking grabbed his and put it on the floor.
They circled the table and each one said an effusive and sick paean to the king. They embarrassed themselves. What kind of person demands that from his staff?

Obama always sought out a cabinet filled with people who were smarter than he is. Biden too. I think that's how it's supposed to be.

Kind of weird that trump televises these charades. I wonder if he orchestrates them after someone in his cabinet chooses to tell him the truth behind closed doors? He has a world renowned short attention span , so flattery is the only way to get him to pay attention.

I made sure to save that GIF. FEMA meeting. Is having access to water a sign of weakness? Or did they not pay him for product placement?

Pence was afraid to do ANYTHING Trump might not approve of, even putting a water bottle in a potentially unapproved place. These guys, one at a time, saying effusive things about Trump to his face was disgusting. A normal person would tell them to stop and let's get to business. But Trump is a child who demands praise.

Trump obviously has people smarter than he is in the cabinet. But Trump will not permit other ideas. He is in charge. You follow orders and that is it. You will make sure to praise him effusively at every opportunity. Trump is so needy and insecure.
