The University of California is ranked the best public university in the world

When I first saw this I thought it was BS. I know for a fact Chinese students only go to the US nowadays because they cant get into Tsinghua and PKU.

I did some more research and this article was linked.

These article is trying to influence students to go to these universities. All of this criteria is research based. You would not be interacting with this until maybe your thesis or more likely your post graduate degree. This has nothing to do with the quality of education a normal student would be getting.

You read the books you were told to read.
Not the way higher education works, but go on.

You cheated on your exams and conformed to a dead-end life as a mortgage slave.
I never cheated on any exam. One of my bigger mistakes was to pay off my entire mortgage. I could have had a 30 year mortgage at just below 4%.

Today, zoomers with a good education end up driving an Uber or showing their titties on OnlyFans.
I am a GenX, but we just hired a Zoomer with a great education, and no work experience, for $180k. I do not even want to think where her salary is going to.

The youth can't survive without their smartphone.

Do you think this is by accident?
And yet the youth today can survive without their cell phones. I have seen them survive.

Do you think it is an accident you cannot figure out how to survive? You have a fantasy that everyone can just fish to survive. You do not understand the basics of survival.

Again, you refuse to accept the simple fact that you were indoctrinated. You don't even know the difference between education and knowledge. Telling people you're educated is another way of saying you're better than them.

People will stop and watch someone showing how to tie a few knots.

The University of California is on top of the world in new global universities ranking.

The University of California is not just the best public university in the United States — it also leads the world.

That’s the verdict of U.S. News & World Report’s 2026–27 Best Global Universities ranking, released Tuesday, June 16. It places four UC campuses in the top 25 of the world’s best 2,250 universities — a feat no other university system in the world can match. It also lists eight UC campuses among the top 30 public institutions in the United States, with UC Berkeley and UCLA as No. 1 and No. 2.

UC’s role as a globally acknowledged research leader is key to American competitiveness and prosperity.

California has the highest raw number and some of the highest proportional representations of Asian college students in the U.S.

That clears that up...

People will stop and watch someone showing how to tie a few knots.
And you are sure all of society's problems can be solved with a few knots... Because if not we would have immensely complex problems that no one person could solve, and no one could solve without a lot of decades of education.

California has the highest raw number and some of the highest proportional representations of Asian college students in the U.S.
California is also really seeing Hispanics take off.

I graduated from LSU. I was in the top 15% of the National Board Examinations, part II.
Also worked with a Harvard grad as his supervisor at the Anchorage Community Health Center when I was the director there. Guy was useless.
So you chose to live in a college town and reap the benefits of living in a community which massively benefits from it's association with institutions of higher education.

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) serves as a massive economic driver for the Anchorage area, directly accounting for more than $260 million in localized university spending and acting as a cornerstone of the broader University of Alaska (UA) system's $1 billion-plus statewide economic impact. UAA represents roughly 34% of all spending across the entire UA system, anchoring its financial footprint heavily within the Municipality of Anchorage.
Over 70% of engineering students and the vast majority of healthcare grads find employment right in Anchorage, often hired by local firms before graduation.
Anchorage holds 75% of the entire state's engineering jobs, a sector heavily sustained by UAA’s College of Engineering.
UAA secures tens of millions of dollars in federal and private research grants annually (such as through its Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER)). This brings "new" money into the Anchorage economy that would otherwise go to the Lower 48.

Maybe those posters who live in West Virginia and Mississippi simply aren't aware that having a highly developed, world class system of higher education drives innovation and economic development.
For sh*ts and giggles let's look at the Top 30. There are 7 public schools on the list. 3 in California and then one in Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas and Florida.

Do the other 42 states (excluding West Virginia and Mississippi since you already mentioned them) not know that having a highly developed world class system of higher education drives innovation and economic development as well?

Think before you post.

Many other states have world class institutions of higher education which aren't land grant public entities.

In all your decades on this planet surely you've heard of Harvard, MIT, Columbia, Rice, Johns Hopkins, Carnegie-Mellon, University of Chicago, Vanderbilt, Yale, Princeton, Stanford.

I also didn't say anything about a top 30, that's an arbitrary cut off point. UC Davis is ranked 39, but its a global center of innovation.

This is just getting sad. All the alt right posters are lining up to try to claim they are really, really smart... ON A ONLINE POLITICAL DEBATE FORUM!!! You will never convince anyone you are smart here. You will just look sad.
You missed the point again, as always, Never Right Walt.
A student can graduate from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX and with hard work and dedication can outperform an Ivy League graduate who’s apex in life was getting into a Harvard where everyone there gets an A or a fuck up gets a B in all courses and then find it almost impossible to compete in the real world.

Are you saying UAA is as good as UCLA for engineering for a dedicated student?
Maybe we can actually agree here.

Your whole premise was world class systems. The UC's are a system. The various school's that make up UT in Texas are a system. One off private schools are not a system.

Most states don't have world class systems. You just picked two states out of many. Why?

I guess it is better to be at the top of a sewer rather than the bottom huh?

Jesus Christ, I'm not playing your word games about what constitutes a system.
Most universities are systems of different undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools, business schools, medical schools, and campuses. If that's not a system, I don't know what is.

Johns Hopkins University has ten campuses on three continents. University of Chicago has multiple campuses around the world.

Are you saying UAA is as good as UCLA for engineering for a dedicated student?
Maybe we can actually agree here.
I don't think any fair minded person can read this thread and conclude that I wrote UAA can't graduate students who go on to become competent engineers.

You’re getting frustrated at me when you’re the one changing the definitions.

USC is not a system because it has different schools within the university people can major in.

John Hopkins’s is a private University. The state of Maryland is not responsible for its Baltimore campus or that it has locations around the globe.

You can’t answer why you chose two states out of most in this country that don’t have world class higher education systems.

And speaking of word games dude, look at your subject. There is no individual University of California. It’s a system with multiple campuses.

There is a UC system. UC Merced is not a system.

So you're just going to ignore that universities like Johns Hopkins, Penn State, University of Maryland, University of North Carolina operate multiple campuses, as well as law schools, medical schools, graduate schools.

If you wanted to play word games about the word 'system', I can see why you would avoid those inconvenient facts.

Bottom line is that no amount of your word games change the fact that California has invested in a world class University system in a way that Mississippi has not.

More word games, as expected.
But no meaningful insights into the state of American higher education.

I used the title of the article as the thread title. Complain to the editors of the article if this really bothers you.

You’re all over the place.

Penn State is a world class system? Really?

I’m not defending Mississippi per se. You can’t answer how you chose two states but left out most other states that don’t have world class systems.

Simply having a state system of schools does not by definition make it world class.
