You are just plain wrong about how the legal system works, and even what the saying is. You are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a criminal trial, but there is a long distance between that and being exonerated, which is rare in any criminal trial. And it is very easy to be punished in a civil trial for something that you were presumed innocent of in a criminal trial, as OJ Simpson found out.
Lets take the OJ Simpson trial. He was presumed innocent in the criminal trial, but was not exonerated. Then in a civil trial, he was found responsible, the opposite of exonerated.
An impeachment has a lower standard of proof than a civil trial.

Which means an impeachment can be defeated with minimal exculpatory evidence—if the evidence barely clears the bar. Pelosi’s evidence meets the bare minimum standard of evidence for impeachment so it can easily be defeated in the Senate.

The ‘exonerated’ bit is a waste of time with the majority of voters. Most voters are [rightfully] uninterested in arcane legal distinctions like between Trump not being convicted in the Senate—yet not being exonerated.

The key to trump's victory in 2016 was the Republican's constant and (then) current investigations of Clinton. It was enough to shame some of the weaker supporters of Clinton into staying home. It really did not matter that Clinton was never "convicted" of anything, it was the investigations that made her look bad. trump cannot get investigations in the USA started against Biden, but was trying to extort the Ukraine into saying they had investigations against Biden.
I cannot be certain that strategy can be used by Democrats, but there is a good chance it will work for Democrats too. trump being permanently investigated, and constantly arguing in court for coverups will probably shame some Republicans into not voting. It is definitely a wedge issue that will lead to one or two Republican Senators not being reelected. With American elections so close, small moves like this have huge political effects.
