Back in 2015, the Pope came to visit Philadelphia. There was some sort of huge rally involved with it. I remember they had boats with 50 caliber guns going up and down the Schuylkill River. It seemed to make sense at the time.

Will we regret the overkill?

Every time you wear a seatbelt, and do not get into a car accident, I guess that was overkill. You did not need it. But it is usually thought to be better to have resources you did not need, then to lack resources you did need.

There are exceptions. If you take resources away from where they are needed, or could be better used, and put them where they are not needed, then that is regrettable. The National Guard is not needed anywhere after Obama ended major combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. The economy is in need of massive stimulus, which calling up the National Guard is a small part of. I see no downside to the National Guard being deployed in three times the numbers they were four years ago, because the danger appears to be several times what it was four years ago.

It is like the vaccines. trump saved a billion or so dollars not buying "too much" vaccines, but that will cost us trillions of dollars in damage to our economy.

Or maybe it would be best to compare it to a house fire. Do you think anyone is worried about using "too much" water to put out a house fire?
