Trump approval rating slips to record low of 34% in YouGov/Economist poll - the most unpopular president since this poll started in 2009

Referencing and touting favorable polling numbers has been a widespread practice among modern U.S. presidents to imply broad public support, validate their agendas, and pressure Congress. Ever since polling became an established metric in the late 1930s, administrations have used public opinion data as a key public relations tool.

The Evolution of Presidential "Poll-Touting"

Franklin D. Roosevelt: The pioneer of integrating polling into governance. He quietly used early Gallup data to gauge public willingness to break from isolationism before World War II.

Lyndon B. Johnson: Famously obsessed with polls, LBJ regularly carried favorable polling metrics in his jacket pocket. He routinely whipped them out during meetings with journalists and members of Congress to prove his Great Society programs had a mandate

Richard Nixon & Ronald Reagan: Both expanded the use of sophisticated internal polling. While they frequently dismissed negative polls publicly as unreliable media metrics, they actively broadcasted favorable findings—such as Reagan's high marks on economic optimism—to project strength.

Bill Clinton: Took poll-testing to an unprecedented level, famously using surveys to vet everything from major policy shifts to his vacation spots. Clinton and his team regularly cited high job-approval numbers—which peaked at 73% in 1998—to maintain political leverage, most notably during his impeachment trial.

Now days Polls do not matter. They will only matter if he goes up again.
Amazingly, MAGA morons will curiously cheer, pop champagne corks, and celebrate :clink: if they happen to stumble across a poll showing Trump at 43% approval.
