Trump dwarfs his predecessors in the number of ultra-rich in his second White House, report shows

Wealth, perhaps second only to loyalty, has been a prized attribute for Donald Trump during his second presidency.

The number of people worth at least $100 million whom the Republican president has appointed to his administration is more than four times the combined total under the three previous presidents, according to a report from the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen.

It’s the numbers for the Trump administration, in the context of previous administrations, that stand out in Public Citizen’s report, published on Monday. In all, 57 Trump officials are worth at least $100 million, including 17 ambassadors and the remaining 40 in senior posts across the executive branch.

Look no further than Trump’s Cabinet. Eight of its 23 members fit the category, notably Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Education Secretary Linda McMahon, both billionaires.

Trump personally regards his white, lower working class evangelical base with utter contempt.
 
Would the same policies be deemed acceptable if they were implemented by someone poor?

Reminds me recently of Tom Steyer. A billionaire who made his money in oil and gas and invested in private prisons then spent over $200m of his own money, a record in that regard, for the California's governors race.

Yet with all that he had support from Bernie supporting progressives who generally rail against millionaires and billionaires. And they supported him because they liked his proposed policies.

I think the point is that with many Americans struggling, wether real or not, Administration heads, including Trump himself, telling Americans it is not that bad sounds apathetic and callous coming from millionaires

I don’t know if you remember but it is like Ricky Gervais at the Academy awards telling the audience not to use their awards as a platform to make political speeches lecturing them that they know nothing about the real world and are in no position to lecture the public.

I'm reading the article in the OP and it's simply talking about the number of rich people.

If a poor minority lesbian proposes a tax cut will it be viewed differently than if the exact same policy was proposed by a rich (white) male? Would that make it more palatable?

I understand what you are saying, but I don’t see it relevant to the thread, besides, Americans aren’t looking for tax cuts but anything that will make them feel things are getting better

The image of Trump, which he himself created, of MaraLago, gold toilets, etc, along with his recent rhetoric that Americans shouldn’t complain about paying a little more, conveys a lack of understanding and empathy, and having the large number of millionaires as his advisories reinforces that image
