Trump invites rally supporters to Mar A Lago...

Jokes work because they are exagerations of the truth. So when a comedian makes fun his immigrant parents they are exaggerating what is true to get a laugh.

Trump is exaggerating here as $5000 could buy a hamburger at Mar A lago but the element that is true, that makes the joke work is '...but do not come as you are too poor'.

The joke is an exaggeration on 'you cannot afford it here and should not come... because you are poor'.

Trump mocking his base as poor does the opposite of bother me. Trump has always mocked his base and i have always enjoyed that greatly.

Trump came on to the national stage realizing who his base was and this was him initially mocking them...

and this mocking follows on Trump and many in his admin pushing what could only be called as Austerity measures that average citizens need to swallow and accept.

Magats have historically (wrongly) labeled anything even suggesting austerity (telling people to learn to live with less) as 'socialism' or 'communism' and yet i have never heard these type of austerity messages out of any top politicians on the left.
