Trump hasn't defeated them despite claiming 12 weeks ago that Iran would unconditionally surrender.

At this point, Trump is just hoping the hardline regime hands him a piece of paper with some vague promises to negotiate about the nuclear program and Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian regime is still in power, and Trump called off his war without Iran making any significant concessions at all.

Trump backed down as soon as the Islamic regime handed him a little piece of paper with no real Iranian concessions on it, and which didn't resolve the nuclear issue.
