Trump mocks wounded soldiers, worries about his hair getting wet

seems to me Putin should come to Victory in Europe day and the US should attend V-Day. Martial prowness or not.
Small things like that help detente' I assume you still support a bettering of relations?
I would not expect Vladimir Putin or Angela Merkel to attend a massive US military parade of tanks and missiles rumbling past the White House.

I have always felt the old World War 2 allies should have some kind of mutual acknowledgment of the mutual sacrifice shared, in a more somber and dignified way.

Whatever we think of the crimes Joseph Stalin committed against his people, the Soviet Union was an indispensable ally against Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan, and they generally kept their part of the bargain on the military commitments agreed to at Yalta.

(R)s used to be the party of patriotism and honoring our veterans and current military members. Not any more.

Sadly agreed. They've been killing and eating their own young for decades now. It's been a disturbing evolution from Newt to Karl and the Neocons to Trump and the Trumpeteers.

There will always be a conservative point of view in the world but whatever Trump and his fan club are doing isn't conservatism. At best it's a marriage of convenience.

In theory and constitutional principle, they were more egalitarian. But the fact is that women in the medical, engineering, and technical professions were still under paid compared to men.

I will acknowledge that for all the oppression and crimes of Soviet totalitarianism, the Marxist ideology did inspire some things that benefited women: vastly increased literacy and educational opportunities compared to tsarist Russia, better civil rights in marriage, divorce, property.

Yes, the data shows a steep increase in literacy & life expectancy from 1920 - 1950 in the Soviet Union.

Yalta Conference enslaved much of Europe, just sayin'.

Yep. They're sluts and whores who will figuratively (and sometimes literally) sleep with anyone if it nets them what they want -- power.

Just look at VanderMoron over on Toxic's special tribute thread, attacking a vet for his service -- while she says bupkes. But watch her haul out the flags and fake patriotism on holidays and shake her booty for #TRE45ON.

I'm comparing apples to apples. It's a free country so you can support a draft-dodging coward and serial adulterer in bashing the United States military, but I'll always disagree.

What shocks me the most isn't that Trump is a lying, selfish coward but that so many Americans support a lying, selfish coward. Republicans like myself supported the military and our national values. That Republican party is long gone and that is really bad for all of us.

What Liberty & Justice?

Is that why George W. Bush still walks the street after his anti-Liberty measure of the Iraq War?

Let's be honest here, George W. Bush may have killed more than Mussolini had.

So, it's certainly not "Liberty & Justice" there.

These allegations would ring false if about Biden; coming against Trump they sound just about right.

FAKE NEWS. Another pile of unsourced garbage from the bottom feeders of the PHONY media. Only idiots like you buy this bullshit. :palm:

White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah called the Atlantic report “offensive and patently false.”

according to a report from the Atlantic citing four UNNAMED senior staffers.

The bombshell report did not name the staffers who made the allegations

However, according to the Atlantic

Trump reportedly said

Trump also reportedly asked not to include wounded veterans because

Link?

Who holds the 21st Century record for spilling the most American blood and spending the most taxpayer dollars?

I'm not defending Obama, but he was more of a Jimmy Carter than a GW Bush. A weak President. Certainly not a Ronald Reagan.

Jimmy Carter's admin iniitiated the beggining of the end for the Soviets in the Afghan-Soviet war.

Just Reagan merely expanded it to collapse.

I believe everyone is aware of that.
That is why I explicitly said military commitments. .to win the war.

Two examples: Soviets promised a massive offensive in Byelorussia in June 1944 to provide cover for our Normandy invasion and draw Nazi troops away from us.

Soviets promised to attack Japanese forces - even through they had a non aggression pact with Japanese - within 3 months of defeating Nazi Germany.

Soviets kept their end of the bargain - to the T.

Agreed to many are interested in personal gain on the backs of the American taxpayer.

Sorry, no interest in those people because I think they are on the fringe of sanity if not actually on the other side of it.

What they rave and rant about matters very little to the big picture.

Eh, Soviets a few years later helped Communists Chinese & then Communist Koreans against the USA interests.

Now you are changing the topic. I have numerous posts on the crimes against humanity by Joseph Stalin.

The topic I spoke to was the miltary coordination between USSR, UK, USA to crush Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.

True about the alliance to defeat Germany...not forgetting that Stalin was aligned with Germany first. :)

Alliances made and broken are threaded throughout history.

FWIW, I've been around the world a few times and have zero interest in leaving North America except for Normandy. That is still on my bucket list.

Trump keeps showing us WHO HE IS. Unambiguously, and without apology.

So many still refuse to believe it.

Which is why it's smarter to let a fool reveal himself to be a fool rather than look like fool running around screaming about him. ;)

I am a world war 2 history buff myself, and I wouldnt mind seeing Omaha beach.

The thing about Normandy is that for such a small piece of real estate, it has been at the centre of watershed historical events - the Viking Norman legacy, the homeland of the Anglo-Norman kings and the Norman conquest of England, the flashpoint of the hundred years war, the site of the D day landings. It makes the head spin!

Agreed there's lots of history there. A great audiobook is Lars Brownworth's Norman Centuries. Free download: https://normancenturies.com/
