Trump Org, CFO indicted by New York grand jury: reports

With 50 seats, they end the filibuster on day one. Although, they would need a Republican POTUS to be able to do real damage. If they had one, they would do it without a second thought. After railing against the same thing for years.

Will Biden do it?

Where Trump will be hung is that he has long taken the tact that if a lot of people do it but no one gets punished for it then he does it too, because to not is to cheat himself. But America has broken down to the point that there is no even application of laws....power uses the law to get the people they want to get...they do not use the law on people they want to let go........and power is determined to get Trump.

Doing this will be the martyring of Trump.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

Big money will keep America as divided as possible. When one side begins to gain too much power, Big Money will give the other side a boost, thus ensuring American remains bitterly divided and firmly in the grasp of big money.

We need a growing groundswell of well informed people to engage a long-term plan to regain control of elections by We The People.

We need to change the laws so that Congress is no longer corrupt, and legislators focus on doing what we want them to do as representatives of the people and the States, not big money.

Money should be for buying things, not people.

What happened is the wealthy figured out putting people with similar problems at each other's throats would keep them busy so they do not notice who is really robbing them. the wealthy are looting us and the white man blames minorities and poor people. Don't be fooled. Koch, Gates, Singer, Musk Bezos, and others are looting us all.

Trump bragged about flaunting the law. It will sink him in the end. Soon rightys will say they did not vote for him like there denied voting for Nixon.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

Sure, big money will seek to push for their way, but people still have minds....unless you believe half are completely stupid. LOL

I try to give them a break and say they simply got taken in by a slick talking con man, but it was nearly half the nation... and still too many, although the numbers are falling gradually. Having his conglomerate of shadow corporations suddenly under indictment probably won't help earn him any new support, thankfully. But with a cult like this, you really have to wonder what it's going to take to wise some of these people up.

The solution, IMO, remains education. Teaching people how to think so that they may make wise and informed choices.

Doing so strengthens the citizenry through the common cause of common sense. Nowadays it seems too many people are confused and suffering from information overload. Better abilities to filter the bullshit would beneficial to voters.

There's a lot of right wingers in charge of education, and they don't want our students thinking open minded for themselves. They prefer to exert pretty strict control over what is allowed to be taught in schools.

Hello Nordberg,

Yup, and Buffett, too.

It's not like they are going to divest.

They know what they are supporting.

So what's the plan?

That's been the case for thousands of years. In order to work, it means most people have to be animals incapable of rational thought.

Hello Dutch Uncle.

So what's the plan?

Glad you asked what the plan is.

There is a plan to fix this problem. Unfortunately it won't be easy, and it will take a long time.

So we had better get started as soon as possible. Fortunately, that has already happened.

People from both sides of the isle have had enough and are beginning to take action.

An organization has been formed to end corruption in Congress.

These people have the silly idea that instead of big money, Congress should:

Represent Us

Umm...that's more goal than plan.

Consider Lionfish who wants to group up to be just like his daddy (who still pays his taxes BTW) If Lionfish wanted to be a Truck Driver then that's a goal.

The plan would be to graduate HS, obtain his DL the take a course for Truck Drivers for his CDL. Cost is an issue so he has to "borrow" the money from daddy or earn it himself. Once completing the course, he could apply for any of the numerous openings for Truck Drivers.

I should think someone like yourself, who has criticisms for both sides, would be supportive of that plan.

The fact that there is an organization, and that progress has been made towards the goal, indicates there is most definitely a plan.

If you spent much time exploring the website I linked, you would understand better.

And it is a logical plan, really the only logical plan that could work to get a Congress that would vote in laws which would outlaw the legal corruption most of the current crop readily accept and protect.

Most of Congress would actually like to have this in place already, but they can't make it happen unless all of them agree to enact it at the same time. Which won't happen. If any try to go first, then they are simply thrown out by the others. Big money is too entrenched in Congress to try to appeal to any of them, or enough of them. The system has to be changed from the ground up, just like it was for getting women the right to vote. That took years and years and it worked from the bottom up. It is currently happening for the legalization of marijuana.

First, the law changes in some isolated places. Then it grows and repeats, then it goes statewide in one state. Then another. And another and another. Finally it happens at the federal level.

And it can happen the same way for corruption of Congress. It is happening. With or without you or me. It may very well not happen within our lifetimes, but it will happen none the less. Good things are worth waiting for.

I don't believe he has that kind of power

Correct, but he can give the nod to do it due to the precedence setting. I have mixed feelings about ending the filibuster, but am leaning to do so due to the inability of Congress to compromise with each other across party lines.

TBH, I'd rather get rid of the political parties and start over from scratch than end the 3/5s rule.

I bet you thought that made sense.

It did make sense, but only in context. ;)

A dependent doesn't file taxes, their parent or guardian does it for them.

Lionfish appears to be young and inexperienced. He could just be another 50something dumbass, of which JPP has its share, but he comes across as a teenager or home-living 20something with daddy doing his taxes.

It's much easier to get rid of lobbyists. Citizens United made that impossible.

We have a SC that believes corporations should be able to buy legislation, and states should be able to ignore the will of the voters. I'm not sure how we got here.

Disagreed on Citizens United. The problem, IMO, is that Congress is so dysfunctional that they are unable to right legislation that is Constitutional.

Election reform can change all of that, but that won't happen in my life time because the idiots in Washington can't get their shit together. Ergo, while legislation can, indeed, alter the effects of Citizens United, I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

SCOTUS isn't making legislation. They are simply ruling on the Constitutionality of legislation from Congress or the States.

Corporations are not people. I don't care how anyone tries to twist it.

C.U makes it legal for anonymous donors to fund campaigns. Putin took full advantage of that via the NRA. Unlimited amounts of money, btw.

There is no legislation that will ever undo C.U.

Nor will legislation stop states from undoing the will of the voters
