Trump pulls out of Syria

AfPak is just a giant counter-terrorism operation masquerading as nation building. It's not a good place to be, but if we weren't there gawd only knows what the Taliban/Waziristan and Iran would cook up

you can rest assured that the scum of the earth are well aware that Trump is in charge over here.
America is in charge of the free world again.
they saw what happened when a mad man, even one backed directly and on-site by Russia,
attacked innocent people.
Trump opened up a can of whup-a$$.

They are lying in wait for another wind bag like Obama to get elected so they can start their $hit up again.
The weak and unable should enjoy this while they can.

Erdogan is that problem..I don't want to babysit the Kurds, as much as I admire them

Nobody is asking you to. Americans need to support the people that did the fighting and dying for us.

"The supporters of the region argue that it is an officially secular polity[14][15] based on a libertarian socialist ideology promoting decentralization, gender equality, environmental sustainability and pluralistic tolerance for religious, cultural and political diversity, and that these values are mirrored in its constitution, society, and politics, claiming it to be a model for a federalized Syria as a whole, rather than outright independence.[16][17][18][19][5][20][21]"

You seem ok with a coward in charge. He sure showed who was in charge when he demanded the wall be funded or the government shut down!

yea, let's talk about the wall in a Syria thread.

you are so transparently ignorant, your focus is that of a 3 year old.

"but the wall, what about the wall"

This WAS the Policy:

"The United States plans to maintain its military presence in northeastern Syria until 2021
for three reasons: to prevent the return of the Islamic State, to influence the political
transition in Syria, and to block the construction of the Iranian “land bridge” to the
Mediterranean. Because of this commitment, the United States decided to keep two
thousand men on the ground and to seek help from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF),
including the YPG, which is the military branch of the Democratic Union Party, usually
referred to as the PYD, or Partiya Yekîtiya Demokrat in Kurdish. (YPG, translated as People’s
Protection Units, stands for Yekîneyên Parastina Gel in Kurdish.) This decision provoked
a major crisis, as Turkey—historically a strong US ally—considers the YPG as the Syrian
branch of its decades-long domestic foe, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The United
States therefore faces a dilemma. On the one hand, the YPG is indispensable to the
military and political structure ruling northeastern Syria. On the other hand, without the
active support of Turkey, the American strategy of countering Iran and Russia is seriously
compromised. With the Turkish army’s offensive against the YPG, the United States
risks losing its indispensable local ally"

"but the wall, what about the wall" you're a joke

This was trumps final stand. He demanded funding for a wall or he would gladly shut the government down.. Well he didn't get the wall, and he sure didn't shut down the government. He just ran away like he always does, however in this case a whole lot of his base is pissed off over his cowardly act.

russia is not our enemy. democrats loved russia until their NPC algorithms got updated to tell them to hate russia and that orange man is bad.

I think Trump is making a mistake. I think there will be a resurgence of ISIS and we won't be able to go back in with any partners.

Thanks for posting policy.. Maybe Trump just wants a headline.

nobody wants ISIS.
Not Iran or Iraq or Hezbollah..Russia, Assad. Kurds..nobody.

I don't see any resurgence -although I'm sure they will stay a virulent insurgency like AQIR was

UK rejects Trump's claim that ISIS is defeated in Syria: 'The threat is very much alive'.

Trump orders US troops out of Syria, declares victory over ISIS; senators slam action as mistake.

Interesting how this sudden decision that seemingly surprised everyone came one day after Mueller indited two Turkish executives

If I was a good right wing conspiracy theorists, might wonder why the timing, and if perhaps a message is being sent to the Turkish Gov't who might know more about financial activities than some might want to keep hidden

Removing US troops from Syria sends what message to Turkey?

The decision was a sudden announcement but it's been on the table for a long time

you think everything Trump does is a "stunt".
Rubio is a neocon who would have us never leave any country. forget him and his imperialism.

ISIS ability to hold ground is gone except for pockets in the desert -just what are we there for now?

Lets make an assumption that you are not a military expert. Now, our actual experts wanted Trump to stay in Syria. Who do we follow, you or them?

Well, as I said, if I was a right wing conspiracy theorists I might suggest that US removing troops doesn't do well for the Kurdish forces in Northern Syria. As I noted, "perhaps a message is being sent to the Turkish Gov't who might know more about financial activities than some might want to keep hidden," especially now that they know some of the oligarchs are facing Mueller and a talking witness in Flynn

Been on the table for a long time, actually years, but since everyone including the State Dept was surprised by Trump's sudden announcement they didn't even know it was being serious considered

I know Rubio is a neocon.. That has nothing to do it it.. ISIS is NOT beaten.. Trump needed a headline and sent the WH staff scrambling with this sudden move.

sure they are beaten.
They are unable to hold ground -even Raqqa. The have been reduced to what they started from- an insurgency.

Why do we need troops in northeastern Syria and northwestern Iraq to combat an insurgency?
