Trump is an a**hole for leaving the Kurds in the lurch. We can't abandon good allies in the M.E. and expect good results. At the very least wait until they get back to safety or our Turkish "ally" will gladly kill them all.

Not only will Trump's decision expose SDF territory to the risk of an ISIS resurgence, but it increases the possibility of an assault on Kurdish-dominated northern Syria by Turkey and its Syrian rebel proxies.
"Instability in one of the most instable places on Earth is not good," said Jan Egeland, head of the Norwegian Refugee Council. "We're not asking any country to militarily engage in Syria. But when one party is withdrawing it could easily lead to more conflict elsewhere. Others move in to take away a power vacuum; would it mean more war in the north between Turkey and Kurds? We don't know."

And even if we were somehow determinative of Turks/Kurds, that puts us in a PERMANENT military posture
in Syria .....( the " we can never leave" argument).
Yes the Kurds got betrayed - but we aren't the ones that determine if they get a state.
The Kurds always get screwed because they exist as a minority across borders

Radical Islam is what radical Islam does. There’s no need—or point, in listening to them. ISIS swept into Iraq and started an Islamic caliphate. Islamic caliphate is a redundancy, actually. Caliphates are Islamic, by definition.

It’s unfortunate about the Kurds—assuming, things plays out ill for them. Frankly, I’m mildly suspicious some
of the gloom and doom comes from parties that put their own interests ahead of the country’s.

Rebuilding Syria with Assad still in place and 6 million Syrians in exile is a non starter for me. Syria was a completely failed state before the civil war.. and Assad is to blame. Should the American people now pay to fix Syria up brand new again?

So Trump saw ISIS was destroyed as a "state" -which was the mission- and got out.
