No doubt banning cars would also save lives. The problem, IMHO, is that banning freedoms is not the best path to preserving freedom in America.
Looking at the specifics of those shootings is a clue to a better path; namely solving gang violence and better mental health care. Resolving those issues would create a better America instead of a more restricted one.

Let's face it, Dutch. AR's are stepping into military-grade weapons on civilian soil. They are used and designed to massacre. While that would be great in a dystopian society, it's not so in a civilized one. You can protect your land, rights, self, etc without that heavy of arms. You can subdue an enemy without making a massacre out of it. A simple Glock would take down most; it's also easier to use and more efficient. AR-style weapons are for enemy combat. Unless you go to the wrong neighborhood and get surrounded by a gang, it's not really something you ever need.

I think even you'd agree that someone who would fail even a basic psyche or competence test shouldn't touch an AR.
