We can run a list of 1st world countries who allow for very liberal gun access but restrict 'weapons of war' and there citizens do not just find another 'next lethal gun' to commit the same level of atrocities.
We can show, in the US, how as the rights to weapons of war has increased, the number of mass slaughters has risen in lock step.
