It's hard to make a proper comparison between the American left and any Chinese ideology.
In reality, after 1949, socialism did save China.

Every time Americans bring up topics like communism, they always use China as an example. But I can tell you, most of that discussion is far from reality. If your conversation is based on using China as an example, it doesn't mean much. Whether left or right, most Americans understand China about zero percent. People are just talking about things that don't actually exist.
