Jesus instructed individual people, the body of believers in the Church on how to care for each other...in particular the widows, orphans and the poor, share freely with your brothers and sisters in Christ. He taught people to live by the laws of the land in which they lived, to respect their authority.Hence, "Render unto God that which is God's and Caesar which is Caesar's"...i.e. pay your taxes, obey the laws, participate in the census, etc.

I actually feel sorry for the poor bastard. He had some major, decent ideas about how to conduct one's self.

NOW...his supposedly most ardent admirers piss on most of what he taught.

There is almost NOTHING in American conservatism that agrees with what Jesus taught. In fact, much of what American conservatism champions...is a form of scorn and contempt for his teachings.
 
I had not realized until very recently the Republicans of today had turned on the Pope. I guess it was during the Republican primaries.

Absolutely not. Have you read the bible? Jesus was not the government. He was a private citizen. He advocated people willingly giving their belongings. One of the 10 commandments states "Thou shalt not steal". Communism is government sanctioned theft bozo.

Jesus advocated what essentially is communism...OR AT VERY LEAST...what is NOT American capitalism.

American conservatism essentially is: I've got mine, fuck you.

That does not comport with anything Jesus ever taught.

In fact, it would be difficult to find anything that is important to the American conservative agenda that is inspired bu anything Jesus taught.

Democrats literally booed God at their convention. Liberal have sued to have crossed removed from public. Sued schools for coaches and football teams and teachers praying. Sued local governments for praying before meetings. It's a sad world you live in where you think as a liberal you can use Christianity as a weapon to argue against conservatism.
