It's never a good idea to rely on a potential enemy for your basic energy needs. There is abundant shale gas but Merkel has banned exploration to satisfy the Green loony tunes, having already agreed to phase out nuclear in a hasty and irrational response to Fukushima. Sadly the once highly pragmatic Germans have succumbed to their local Moonatic clones.
