US, France and UK strike Syria's chemical weapons program...

The U.S. special mission in Benghazi and the nearby CIA annex were apparently being used to coordinate arms shipments to jihadist rebels fighting the Syrian regime. Ambassador Christopher Stevens played a central role in this mission. I don't know if I believe that or not.

It was a US Mission and that is why there were no marine guards.

Joint strikes in Syria with France and the U.K.

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump announced on Friday he ordered strikes on the Syrian regime's chemical weapons facilities in coordination with France and the United Kingdom in response to a chemical weapons attack last weekend.

"I ordered the United States armed forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapon capabilities of Syrian dictator of Bashar al-Assad," Trump said from the White House Diplomatic Reception Room.

Witnesses told CNN that they heard explosions in the capital city of Damascus and that they began while Trump was making his address.
US aircraft -- including B-1 bombers -- and ships were used in the attack, according to multiple US defense officials.

“What will we get for bombing Syria besides more debt and a possible long term conflict? Obama needs Congressional approval.”

The Annex was NOT a US mission.. it was a covert operation.

You are grasping at straws. The "villa" where Srephens died was the Mission. The "annex" was an annex to the Mission. It is clear you know nothing about US missions. It is useless to debate someone who is ignorant of the subject being discussed. Good bye.

There was NO diplomatic mission in Benghazi. See if you can find any reference to a US consulate in Benghazi from 1965 thru 2012.

Exactly. Our military should be setting their sights on Iran and North Korea.

How many deaths does your religion require? Iran has not attacked a country for a century. How many has peaceful USA attacked? You never make any sense. Your inconsistency is incredible. How many have to die for you to be satisfied. North Koreans and Iranis are not humans to you? You are a PNAC type neo con.

It was designated as a “temporary mission facility” in officialese. It was supposed to become a fully fledged consulate but had not yet achieved that status. The other facility was a CIA safe house, neither had the status of an embassy. However, the “temporary mission facility” was protected by Libyan troops as required under international law, but very poorly as we all know.

do we care?......it was a building.......it was attacked......Americans died.......

and tomorrow the Syrians will tell us that we bombed an abandoned aspirin factory and that it was back in operation by Monday......

Assad was completely unfazed by Trump's airstrike.... and he has been giving defiant interviews ever since.

Trump should have flattened the empty billion dollar palace in Damascus to show Assad what he can do.

It was a British security firm and a crappy one at that.

WASHINGTON/BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) - The State Department’s decision to hire Blue Mountain Group to guard the ill-fated U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, entrusted security tasks to a little-known British company instead of the large firms it usually uses in overseas danger zones.

The contract was largely based on expediency, U.S. officials have said, since no one knew how long the temporary mission would remain in the Libyan city. The cradle of last year’s uprising that ended Muammar Gaddafi’s 42-year rule, Benghazi has been plagued by rising violence in recent months.

Security practices at the diplomatic compound, where Blue Mountain guards patrolled with flashlights and batons instead of guns, have come under U.S. government scrutiny in the wake of the September 11 attack in Benghazi that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

Federal contract data shows that the Benghazi security contract, worth up to $783,284, was listed as a “miscellaneous” award, not as part of the large master State Department contract that covers protection for overseas embassies.

What we're seeing now is the usual "rally 'round the flag" reaction that we always see when we engage our military.

The time to judge this action will be down the line. There certainly weren't huge negatives, outside of the cost. But there wasn't much too it. Did it really change anything?

It's just a "yay Trump" move right now.
