My suspicion is that this wholesale dropping of charges many of which are far worse, with equal or better evidence to that of the Capitol riot will be used in defense of Capitol rioters who will now argue that their prosecution is political, not criminal, in nature.

Whether or not politics is behind dropping the Portland charges, when conduct is criminal on its face, as clearly it is in the assault on the Capitol building, any political bias in officials behind the arrest and prosecution is irrelevant.

Bitch away, friend. Leftists have bitched for decades for the same reason and probably with more justification since law enforcement traditionally has been more conservative than liberal. But, as I said, it's the conduct. Deciding if the conduct matches up with the criminal charge(s) are what juries and judges are for. Any motion to dismiss a charge solely on the basis of the political motivations of the party who made the arrest wouldn't get so much as a hearing.
