US to cut some aid to Pakistan

Very interesting. There now seems to be a coherent policy to deal with China.

First Russia and then India. It looks like the Trump admin is trying to convert all the major countries surrounding China into allies to contain their influence. Of course South Korea and Japan are also in this bucket but they are very minor comparatively speaking to India and China.

China is relying on One Belt One Road in case of conflict with the US as the US navy is unbeatable. Friendly Russians and Indians would cut off overland trade routes.

The Pakis had to know where Osama was hiding.

They should get nothing from America.

honestly that has nothing to do with it. Before India used to cozy up to the soviets which is why we got Pakistan. Pakistan is now cozying up to the Chinese and India is having border skirmeshes with them.

The BPO industry (which India relies on) is an easy target for Trump but he never mentions it.

But it should.

Indians and the people who became Pakis have hated one another since Britain ruled the subcontinent.

He never mentions outsourcing?

that makes no sense. India and China are regional rivals, but China is an SE Asian littoral power too.

What makes sense is containing China -they have the money and are building a YUGE navy,
as well as having the largest land army.
They are a long term threat, much more then Russia which has a European outlook

What we should be doing is becoming friendly with Russia to drive a wedge between the Russian-Sino military alliances.
Of course with Russiaphobia our foreign policy is one of cognitive dissonance.

The Pakistan money goes to their ISI -which keeps their armed forces from becoming radicalized
as well as watching over their nuclear stock.

Trump is trying to force Pakistani cooperation on terrorism, but this isn't the way to do it

Yes containing China is the goal. Friendly relations with Russia is one goal leaving them with a US ally to the North and abandoning Pakistan for India (because you cant have both) is another goal to give China a US ally to the West. Of course there are already US allies to the East.

well I do agree we should get a lot closer to India, we have much more in common with them then with Pakistan.
But Pakistan has to be neutralized as much as possible -afterall they are a nuclear power,
and their ISI is really the only thing that keeps their civilian government at bey.

We gotta try to play both, as building up India also ties down China to it's regional defense

I think cultural differences make it hard to play both. If I was to choose though I would pick India over Pakistan. Picking Pakistan would mean that China would have a secure border to the West. As an added bonus with India cooperative maybe somethign can be done about Tibet as well as they border it.

Tibet is a lost cause.
Even the Dalai Lama has given up -long ago moved his office to Dharamshala, India.

He is seriously considering NOT reincarnating because of the Chinese boot on Tibet.

What I mean is keeping Pakistan's radicalization under control, and keeping their army independent

Pakistan has always had friendly relations with China. India has usually leaned towards Russia.

Pakistan was in fact the go between we used during the opening with China... They were the only nation with good relations with both the us and China. Their pro-Chinese stance is of course motivated by China's ability to check India in any war.
