I have been to Venezuela several times. In spite of attempts at wealth distribution, it has always been an oligarchy characterized by corruption, extremes in income distribution, and lack of a diversified economy. That is where Venezuela's problems originate.

If you use the standards metrics of what constitutes "socialism", then Norway is more socialist than Venezuela or communist China.

Norwegian workers are heavily protected, with 70 percent of workers covered by union contracts, and over a third directly employed by the government.
