What are your thoughts on a president going around renaming things after America, because he has a fight with the Country he believes it was named after?

The Province of Ontario was named after the lake, and is not a French word. I do not understand the connection to his fight with Canada? Can anyone explain?
 
Does a President have such power based on the Constitution?

I know many people used to be sticklers for requiring Presidents not take powers not granted by the Constitution.
 
Waste of time. Grandstanding.

The POTUS has a LOT of responsibilities and demands on his time. We pay him to get shit done and to keep the country running.

Rather than waste time on an ego thing, how about working to improve the nation? Or, at least, slow the decline.
 
I'd be curious to see the actual cost of such a thing.

From the hours paid politicians spend talking about it to the changes on maps, GPS programs, signage and whatever else.
 
I find the behavior bizarre. It is fortunately done by executive order and can be reversed by future Presidents. Unfortunately, the millions to do so is wasted.

Seneca Nation President J. Conrad Seneca called Friday for President Trump to rescind his order to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America," citing a 225-year-old treaty between Native Americans and the U.S. government.

Seneca said in a statement that this name change, which President Trump authorized in a Thursday executive order, violated the terms of the 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua.

"The President cannot assert ownership over our culture or erase it through irresponsible political action," he said in a statement.



President George Washington and leaders of the Haudenosaunee confederacy, which includes the Seneca Nation, signed the treaty to assert a shared commitment to peace. The document laid out the Seneca Nation's boundaries as "beginning on Lake Ontario."


The lake's name comes from the Huron Indigenous people's word "oniatarí:io," which translates to "lake of shining waters." In the traditional Seneca language

I agree with this, it's a bizarre situation, to punish Canada? I have no idea how changing what we call the lake punishes or harms Canada, or helps us. I can't see a connection to the Trade War Trump is pushing.

I do not understand this post? Its a simple question. How is it connected to the midterms?

I think your post if off topic.
 
If we are smart we will be undoing much of what Trump has done. Not everything. He didn’t get it all wrong. Even a broken crooked, corrupted, clock is right twice a day.

The wasted time and resources though, repairing what didn’t need to be broken, is sad.
