Do you even know how big the strait of Hormuz is?
At its thinnest, it has a navigable width of less than two miles. With the exception of the Bosphorus, it is the easiest Strait to blockade.
Do you think we stretched a big assed net from end to end?
No, just threaten to sink ships, and you can close the Strait. Part of the problem trump has is he is afraid of sinking ships from neutral countries, like India and China. Iran is more crazy, so more respected in this situation.
You do realize it is almost next to impossible to stop every single ship right?
If someone wanted to saturate the area with artillery, drones, and missiles, it would destroy the vast majority of the ships that tried to get through, which is why no one wants to try without permission from Iran.
5% losses would destroy the world economy, but Iran would have no problem going well above 5%.
Despite your constant cheerleading, the Iranian regime is strangling
They are the only country getting oil and natural gas through the Strait. Yes, they are strangling, but everyone else is strangling more. For the first time in decades, their fuel is not selling at a discount. For the first time ever, their fuel is selling at a premium. It is unclear what that means, but it is not good for trump.
The waterway doesn't legally belong to Iran or any nation.
Much of it, if not all the navigable waters, are part of Iran's EEZ, so does somewhat belong to Iran. The old world order had a right to free navigation... In peacetime. Iran has a good point that this is not peacetime...
And beyond that, we are talking about the old world order, not trump's new world order. trump has already said that the Strait belongs to Iran, but he thinks the USA deserves a cut of the tolls. For the USA to get a cut of the tolls, Iran has to be collecting tolls.
You really seem to have completely missed how badly trump messed this up.
Blockades are either an act of piracy or an act of war. So usually leaders consider it an act of war.
