These banners were widely used at hospital entrances across the UK in spring 2020.

This matched the broader UK messaging of the time (“Stay home. Protect the NHS. Save lives”).

During the period (roughly late March through April–May 2020) that matches the timeframe of that NHS banner, many NHS staff recorded and posted TikTok dances and similar short videos.


Contemporary news coverage from late March and early–mid April 2020 documented this at multiple hospitals across the UK, including:


  • St James’ Hospital in Leeds (COVID ward staff dancing to Blinding Lights)
  • Isle of Wight NHS Trust ICU nurses
  • Calderdale Royal Hospital
  • New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton (cardiology team)
  • Royal Devon & Exeter
  • Raigmore Hospital in Inverness
  • City Hospital in Birmingham
  • Hospitals in Teesside and elsewhere

Staff typically filmed short, choreographed routines in scrubs or PPE.

Where is Socialized medicine? The socialized medicine you claim other countries have is merely universal healthcare. They have better health outcomes than we do, and it is much cheaper. Our system is providing incomplete coverage and getting worse results. Our corporate healthcare is the joke of the industrial world.

Wrong! Many nations have Socialized medicine. The government runs the program. Use is generally free. The costs are covered by taxation of everyone. In the vast majority of socialized medicine / medical care systems the outcomes are far worse than in the US system.

What happens in nations where the government is not oppressive or totalitarian in nature is a two-tier system occurs. There is the socialized medical system run by the government and paid by general taxation and a second, private system that is pay-as-you-go used by the wealthly.

That is the system in both Mexico and Canada, for example. The private system is expensive but highly effective and there is little or no wait for service. The socialized system in a word is, mediocre. It is better than nothing.

In Mexico the socialized system still works on the mordita (bribe). For example, when I was in college I went to Puerto Penasco (aka Rocky Point) in Mexico for spring break with friends. One of the people in our group got badly injured playing with fireworks. We took him to the local clinic where we collectively dumped about $100 US on the staff. We were next.

The locals waiting hours to be seen were kicked to the curb. The staff spared no expense for that guy. They patched him up well enough to return to the US for more care. The free care the socialized system offered was basic first aid at best. The staff didn't particularly give a shit. They weren't being paid to. $100 at the time was a significant amount of cash they personally got. They reciprocated in kind.

Yes, the US system is not "fair and equal," but it also isn't mediocre. Military medical care is generally slow and often mediocre. The same goes for the Public Health Service. Medicaid varies in quality wildly by state as does the VA.

An example of that was a friend and shipmate of mine got a bad case of poison oak over quite a bit of his body while on liberty. He went to sick call. The ship's corpsmen and PA said they couldn't do anything for him and referred him to the Oakland Regional Naval Hospital for treatment. He had to go in uniform of the day (wool dress blues) and use public transit to get there. Once there, it took him about six hours to be seen by a dermatologist who gave him an ointment and a SIQ (Sick In Quarters) authorization. That mean he returned to the ship and was to stay in berthing until better and seen again.

It was slow, marginal, and only so-so treatment.

Employer health insurance plans vary by company. Most provide good to excellent plan selections while some only offer so-so coverage.

The joke is you thinking that something like Britain's NHS delivers excellent service when it is generally just mediocre and often poor.

Where is the link? Is it to one of those 'studies' that gets trotted out every time where there's like 8 to 10 categories and only one of them measures outcomes while the rest measure how socialized it is?
