The official transcript records him stating: "Your race suffer greatly, many of them, by living among us, while ours suffer from your presence... It is better for us both, therefore, to be separated." He requested volunteers to seed a colony in Chiriquí (modern-day Panama).

On that subject, a majority of the native cultures of the americas were deep into slavery and felt pretty good about it too because after all that was better than the cannibalism and human sacrifice.
Reparations are punishment for people who kept historical records because the nasty shit just stretches into prehistory.

A hundred thousand years of endless war, rape, and slavery and (a few) Europeans said "Hey, this isn't very moral is it. Look at how unfair this is. Have some empathy people."
Now they're the bad guy. As far as I can tell they only did two things different:
1.) Recorded what they did
2.) Felt bad about it
I mean there are several empires that recorded what they did, but they didn't feel bad about it then and their descendants still don't now.
The crazy thing is that 'we' children of western civilization actually thought we convinced everyone we were right about that. Turns out, no, vast portions of the world's population still think slavery, theft, fraud, and rape are fine as long as you can get away with it and it's hurting people outside of your tribe.
They're just kinda stunned 'we' stopped and even more amazed that certain European countries are just letting themselves be plundered.
