If the Nazis were exterminating Jews because of their race, whether or not Jewish is a race, then wasn't the Holocaust about race?

Put another way, if someone kills somebody else because he perceives that person to be gay, whether or not he's gay, then he's still committed a hate crime.

Yes, like the Nazis, not Americans. Especially African-Americans for obvious historical reasons. Some of the Euro-Americans, usually the poorly educated, under-employed ones, also think Jews are an inferior race but, like looking at gays, most Americans can't tell and don't care.

The attack on the Jewish synagogue in Colleyville, Texas (next to DFW) probably had more than a few Texans thinking "We have Jews in Texas?" Not because they are bigots, but because they'd never seen a Jew.

Unless someone is wearing markings or otherwise advertising their views at work or in public, most Americans can't tell and often don't care just like anything else.

Most Americans, IMO, are too self-involved to give a shit about anyone else. It's the nutjobs who end up on TV. LOL
