Why $3 gas won't come back anytime soon, even with a ceasefire in Iran

The inflation statistic has only recently ticked up somewhat due to gas prices. Core inflation has remained steady (very low). There is no inflation problem. That was during the Autopen's term when this statistic was almost 3x what it is now.

In 2022, I was told that "Presidents can't control gas prices" whenever people were blaming the Autopen for high gas prices.

How can the recent increase in gas prices be "Trump's fault" when I was told back in 2022 that "Presidents can't control gas prices"?
Let me help you with your stupidity.

It is rare a POTUS actions can or will impact global gas prices and that was certainly true that Biden was not responsible for the global impact of supply chain issues post covid not Russia invading Ukraine.

What that DOES NOT mean is it is impossible for a US POTUS to impact global gas prices and if a POTUS nuked the Middle East or just shut down a bunch of the oil they send to market thru his sole stupid choices and actions... then YES, that POTUS can impact the price

You will compete with these prices on the global market, Americans. Do you think you can escape higher energy costs when buyers worldwide are bidding up prices?

Sri Lankan buyer paid $286 for barrel of oil, as actual prices diverge from markets

HSBC chief says price of Brent crude does not reflect real-world prices in Asia, when insurance, shipping and scarcity are taken into account.

The price paid for a barrel of oil in Asia has reached as high as $286 in at least one case, as a result of the US-Israeli war on Iran, Georges Elhedery, the CEO of HSBC Bank, said at an investment forum in Hong Kong on Tuesday.

Elhedery made the remarks to underscore how the benchmark price of oil in the West does not reflect the actual price buyers in certain parts of the world are paying.

“What worries me is not the headlines. I mean, oil headline is above $100, $110,” he said, according to a transcript of his conversation recorded by Bloomberg and obtained by Sherwood News.

“Realistically, if you are now trying to get oil from the Middle East, you may be paying $140, $150,” he said.

The banker said that the highest price he had heard for a barrel of oil was $286, in Sri Lanka.

The inflation rate was higher than Bidens in January before the war.

And you would not accept that Biden "can't control gas prices" whenever people were blaming Biden for high gas prices.

Yeah, Trump started the war, he is liable for the hike.

Let me help you with your stupidity.
Oh boy... this'll be good...
It is rare a POTUS actions can or will impact global gas prices
Goalpost shift. Back in 2022, I was told that Presidents CANNOT impact gas prices. Now, you're shifting it to "it's rare..." --- (translation: only when a Republican is President)
and that was certainly true that Biden was not responsible for the global impact of supply chain issues post covid not Russia invading Ukraine.
"Biden not responsible" ... "not Russia invading Ukraine"

So, you claim that the blame falls on "global impact of supply chain issues post covid". Yet, who was it who ordered everything deemed "non-essential" to shut down (and STAY shut down)? Yup, that was DEMOCRATS. Who was it who mandated that people "wear a mask and get jabbed or lose their jobs"? Yup, that was DEMOCRATS. Those two things are what largely caused supply chain issues in the USA, and those two things were both directly caused by DEMOCRAT policies re: covid.
What that DOES NOT mean is it is impossible for a US POTUS to impact global gas prices
Ummm, but back in 2022 that's specifically what I was told. I was told that it was impossible for a President to impact gas prices. (idk what "global gas prices" are... there's no such thing).
and if a POTUS nuked the Middle East
Hasn't happened.
or just shut down a bunch of the oil they send to market thru his sole stupid choices and actions...
Hasn't happened either.
then YES, that POTUS can impact the price
Neither of those things have happened.

Oh boy... this'll be good...

Goalpost shift. Back in 2022, I was told that Presidents CANNOT impact gas prices. Now, you're shifting it to "it's rare..." --- ...

If you are not lying and someone told you that they are wrong.

here is the easiest proof of how wrong that statement is and how easy it is to prove wrong.

'If the US unleashed all their nukes across all the mideast, russia and every oil generating nation... we all accept that would impact oil prices amongst other issues it would cause'.

Now you will say 'that is extreme' and YES that is the point. It ENDS the extreme claim that there is NO ACTIONS a POTUS can take to impact oil prices.

Once you end that stupid claim and we can stop talking about then the real discussion is what are the types of actions a POTUS could take to impact oil prices globally, which are all pretty extreme but not at the level of the nukes above and here are some...

- Dem extreme lefty POTUS declares Climate Change is a national emergency and that all US production of oil domestically is immediately suspended
- POTUS starts war(s) in ME or against Russia that keep their oil from the markets.

There are others, but they all need to be pretty high bar to impact global oil prices as the effects cannot just be local or smaller.

So in your stupidity you heard something you did not understand (quote it so i can read it) which was that Biden could not impact global oil prices during the Covid issues as a POTUS doing what he did, does not have that power. that is because none of the moves Biden made had global impact and in fact were all mostly positive moves which is why the US lead the world out of that recovery with the top performance.

Now do i expect you can read and understand the above and won't just go back to repeating the stupidity? NO.

...

...
No it was NOT democrats. the near shut down of the supply chain was a WORLD WIDE EVENT. You are simply wrong. that is why countries like Sweden who DID NOT shut down at the start still suffered equivalent economic harm to those who did shut down as no country exists in a bubble that allows a world wide shut to not impact them.

Now you will say 'that is extreme' and YES that is the point. It ENDS the extreme claim that there is NO ACTIONS a POTUS can take to impact oil prices.
I already hold the viewpoint that Presidents CAN affect oil/gas prices... you don't need to convince me of that view.

My point is that, back in 2022, Democrats were erroneously claiming that Presidents CAN'T affect oil/gas prices (in order to deflect blame off of the Autopen). But now, in 2026, Democrats are very quick to blame Trump for oil/gas prices even though it runs counter to their own logic from four years ago.
- Dem extreme lefty POTUS declares Climate Change is a national emergency
The Autopen effectively already did this on January 20th 2021 via a Day 1 executive order. While the Autopen didn't literally declare "climate change" a national emergency, the Autopen DID wage war against hydrocarbon-based fuels (e.g. oil, gas, diesel).
and that all US production of oil domestically is immediately suspended
This part didn't happen because much of the world is largely run on the USA's oil production.
- POTUS starts war(s) in ME
The ME has been in a perpetual state of war for a very long time.
or against Russia
The Autopen poked the Russia bear one too many times which started that now-years-long war.
that keep their oil from the markets.
The markets are flooded with oil atm.
There are others, but they all need to be pretty high bar to impact global oil prices as the effects cannot just be local or smaller.
"global oil prices"? You sure love your buzzwords...

yes but your view is wrong.

No one believes it is impossible for a POTUS to impact global oil prices and you simply did not understand what was being said which was 'in almost all instances a POTUS domestic policy choices and his term do not materially impact oil prices in the way some people like to pretend'.

You are trying to use that wrong statement as a shield to avoid addressing how Trump is now impacting oil prices, so you do not have to address it.

yes but your view is wrong.
My view is correct.
No one believes it is impossible for a POTUS to impact global oil prices
You don't get to speak for everyone else, Q-tip. I had lefties making that claim to me back in 2022 when I was blaming the Autopen for gas prices increasing to sky high levels. I remember it full well. They were countering my blaming the Autopen for it with claiming that Presidents can't affect oil/gas prices (even while they were simultaneously blaming President Putin for the sky high oil/gas prices).
and you simply did not understand what was being said
I understood full well what was being said to me.
which was 'in almost all instances a POTUS domestic policy choices and his term do not materially impact oil prices in the way some people like to pretend'.
That's not what was being said to me.
You are trying to use that wrong statement as a shield
I'm not using it for anything. It was what leftists said to me at the time. I'm simply calling out their logic and reasoning errors.
to avoid addressing how Trump is now impacting oil prices,
It is not Trump who is causing oil prices to increase... it is everyone who is fear mongering over the Strait of Hormuz who is causing oil prices to increase.

The 2021-2023 years-long price spike in gasoline was caused by the Autopen's domestic energy policies and ended by SCOTUS's ruling to remove much of the Autopen's domestic energy policies.

The 2026 temporary price spike in gasoline (which is still roughly $1 lower than it spiked in 2022) was (and is still being) caused by fear mongering over the "closure" of the Strait of Hormuz (which was never actually closed).
so you do not have to address it.
I've already addressed it.

Yes, it was.

The USA is not the world, Q-tip...

No, YOU are. It was DEMOCRATS who implemented and refused to remove the aforementioned covid policies.
The USA is a part of the world and thus when you have a world wide event impacting EVERY country, in the way covid did, the US is not immune and you cannot blame the US POTUS for the clear worldwide impacts we see impacting every country.

Only an idiot ignores that each and every country is suffering and yet the US is managing them best and says 'ya but we are still suffering so our POTUS is bad'.

You don't get to speak for everyone else, Q-tip...
Yes i do in this context.

Show me one person who would say 'if the US nuked every oil producing country in the world that the POTUS would have no impact on world Oil prices'.

You won't be able to do that as that person does not exist.

But try and i will wait.

Well, they threw them off the buildings.

You are confused.

The Iranian government does not throw homosexuals (or people convicted of same-sex acts) off buildings as a method of execution or punishment.

Iran's Islamic Penal Code (under Sharia law) does criminalize consensual same-sex sexual activity (referred to as lavat for men), with the death penalty possible, especially for the receptive partner in penetrative acts, or under certain conditions for the active partner (e.g., if force, marriage status, or religion factors apply). Women face lashes (up to death on a fourth offense for repeated acts). This has been enforced since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The execution method in Iran is hanging.

Claims that "Iran throws gays off buildings" occasionally appear in political rhetoric (e.g., recent statements by tyrant Trump).

Iran's Islamic Penal Code (IPC) is the primary criminal law of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is based on Sharia (Islamic law) and was approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly in 2012–2013, ratified by the Guardian Council, and entered into force in 2013 (replacing the 1991 code). It contains 728 articles organized into five books and remains in effect with no major amendments to the relevant sections as of 2026.

These fall under Book Two, Part Two, Chapter Two: Sodomy (Livat), Intercrural Sex (Tafkhiz), and Tribadism (Mosaheqeh) (Articles 233–241). Consensual same-sex acts are criminalized as hudud offenses.

Unfortunately, it appears you'll get your wish. Millions of Americans will suffer due to the actions of the Orange Jesus.

Nobody is "confused". Some are generalizing the actions of other Muslims that Iran supports. It's all good, it doesn't matter how they are killed. Iran is one of the countries that hangs them from heavy machinery... though some "honor" killings have families hucking them off buildings before they are convicted to avoid the shame.
