I still haven't gotten a credible or coherent explanation out of one of our gun-loving friends here just exactly *how* they think they are going to fight tyranny when the gubmint has all the big kid toys.

When Guns Are Useful Story:

Some years ago I developed a sudden allergy to pineapple and ended up in the ER having difficulty breathing. To show them that they aren't the boss of me, the next weekend my husband bought a box of pineapples and took them to the shooting range. We had a lot of fun exploding them. Also, if you're pissed at ppl at work or elsewhere, you can buy large squash, melons, etc., use tacks and bits of paper to make faces on them, and explode those too. Much nicer and far fewer legal problems than doing it in real life. lol

The same way people have fought oppressive regimes since forever. The disparity in arms would only be a stumbling block for a short amount of time. How many firebombings or public executions of our own people do you think our government could perpetrate and still maintain order. You're also assuming that our military and law enforcement would allow such a thing. I'm sure some would and would delight in it and some would use the Nuremberg defense, but getting the majority of them to do the government's bidding would be impossible, especially when their loved ones lives are at stake. Also think about how many conflicts we are involved in abroad and how stretched out our military is. That would open the government up to huge political losses on the global stage, not to mention it would open the doors up for aid as well as attack from other countries that don't exactly see us as benevolent protectors. It would also take a huge toll economically since they would be severely cutting their "income" by waging war on their own people.

So with that being said, I think the government knows better than to fuck around with an armed populace.
