Why the Christian right is against the safety net.

The same crowd that is against things like welfare and universal healthcare are the people who will loudly proclaim "See? god provides" when a stranger pays for someone else's groceries.

If you are in a system that produces mass suffering you have 2 options.

option one is demand and work for change.

Option two is to reframe the suffering as "meaningful". Suffering becomes the test. An act of kindness or generosity inside the suffering becomes a miracle.

Option two is cheaper and comes with a tiktok following.

The system that caused the suffering? That's forgotten background noise because everyone is busy staring at the "miracle moment" instead of the system that made it necessary.

The worse the suffering the more powerful the miracle has to be to balance it.

I had to jump in and school this absolute lunatic on basic reality. Philanthropists do not need to create some imaginary party fund. They are already filthy rich. How do I know? Because the very definition of philanthropist is someone who gives away their own massive wealth. They already possess every party fund they could ever desire, and their full time job consists of dumping their personal fortune on causes. Apparently, you keep deciding words mean whatever pops into your rattled brain. They do not. Words exist so people can actually communicate instead of babbling like deranged toddlers. Religion, in particular in our world Christianity, is behind a lot of this resistance to helping others. "The poor will always be with us," suffering is part of life so suck it up and be good and you'll get a better deal in Heaven, God made the world this way so deal with it, etc.
